Question / Help Need help setting up the XCAPTURE-1

So my capture card arrived and I am trying to set it up for use on OBS. However I get a blue box (apposed to the normal red box)

Set up:

S/video in to capture card ----- S/video out to TV ------- USB to PC -------- Video capture device ----- configure ------ S/video

I am sure I am just messing something up, but I thought I would ask for some guidance.

The "blue box" is from the capture device itself. Do you get picture on your TV from the passthrough? Also, you did use the breakout cables, right, you didn't just plug the S-Video connector into the breakout cable port?

You have to use the breakout cable, which has an S-Video, composite and L/R RCA audio connectors on it on it.

Yes, those are the breakout cables. I'm honestly not sure what you mean with a "colors to colors wire", though.

You're probably going to have to explain exactly what it is you've connected to your XCAPTURE-1, or take some pictures of that instead.

Well, I don't know what to say. Of course S-Video doesn't work, you don't have anything connected to the S-Video connector?

Yellow+red+white is composite (with yellow being the composite video cable) while red and white are left and right audio. Switch to composite instead of S-Video in the Configure dialog, and it should work.

Just a black screen in the preview box now :S.
Got any other suggestions? I would very much like to know I haven't wasted my money :P

I have an XCAPTURE-1 myself, and it has worked fine with every single console and/or PC I've hooked up to it. You still haven't mentioned AT ALL exactly what it is you have connected to the composite connectors on the breakout cable.

If it is a PAL console, you will want to select the proper video mode from the second tab in the Configure dialog, and set the frame rate accordingly (25, since composite is always interlaced.)

Edit: Okay, so it's a PlayStation 2, I see that now that I browsed through all of your images.

Oh I could just kiss you (I won't tho :P.) I needed to change the decoder as you said.

Thank you so much for your help paibox :D

Sorry me again :P. I was wondering if their was a way to hear the audio that OBS was recording?

Basically I have the capture card hooked up etc. but while I am playing I would like to hear the audio though my headset rather than my TV because it will go into the mic etc. Their has to be a way to do this right seeing as obs is picking up the audio?

As for the audio, just click the "Output audio to desktop" radio button below the audio device selection box.
There are numerous devices that let you bypass HDCP, but such things are better discussed elsewhere.

Is it not possible to have it so I can hear the game audio from headset as well as send the audio to a stream? when I select sent audio to desktop I can hear the audio but the stream can't and if I choose the other option the stream can hear the audio but I can't

You need to have desktop sound unmuted to be able to stream the sound while playing it back to desktop. There's no option for outputting to stream+to desktop, so you will have to pick between one or the other.

And if you DO have desktop audio unmuted in the main OBS window, please check if you have the "Use input device for desktop audio" checkbox under "Audio" settings (or "Advanced, if the update is out by the time you read this.) If it is checked, you have to do the following:

A) Uncheck it.
B) Think about why you checked it in the first place.

If it's not checked, then just unmute desktop audio in OBS and you'll hear your capture card sound on stream as well as in your headset.

Thank you so much for the help so far I am not the best when it comes to wiring :P. 1 last question I promise this iwll be the last one.

I have given up trying to bypass HDCP as I can just use component to get 720p which is good enough for me while streaming anywas, however what cable do I need? D-terminal to component and D-terminal to AV?

You would need two component (female) to d-terminal cables, Solaris Japan sells these as well.

The ps3 does not have a component port though, it only have AV and HDMI which is why I thought I would need a av cable.

If I have composite going into the capture card and then have d-terminal to component going to the TV would this work? I think this is known as passthrough

Ehr no, that would not work. But like, component cables for the PS3 are the same as the PS2 ones. They just go in the AV port.

Component video can run 1080p just fine.

Yes, looks like that's what you'll need... though I'd personally buy two 'D-Terminal to Component Adapter Cable (Female)' instead of one of each male/female. You're probably going to want to put a set of component cables from the XCAPTURE-1 to your TV, instead of trying to plug the device directly into the back of your TV with that teensy little converter cable (leaving the XCAPTURE dangling behind your television on its 5" leash). It's a lot easier to find a standard male/male component cable than it is to find a male/female 'extender' cable (and probably a lot cheaper, too!).
