Hi there, because im new to OBS and after watching some youtube tutorials for different settings. Was wondering if these settings would be ok for my rig/internet speed. Thanks in advance!

My rig: CPU = i7 - 2670QM 2.20GHZ
Ram = 4.00 GB and a 64 bit operating system
Graphics card = NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M
(my computer is a laptop, Windows 7)

My internet speed at its peak: http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/3613989312

Finally my OBS settings: http://imgur.com/a/i9l9u#0

Cheers,

Are you planning to stream to Twitch.tv? If so, you need remove the keyint=60 from advanced custom x264 settings. Twitch.TV requires 2 sec keyframe interval. Also I'd change from High profile to main profile in advanced. And maybe switch from bilinear resizing to bicubic if the CPU can handle it of course. Also remove the check-mark to disable Aero. You should only disable Aero when your doing a monitor capture.

Streaming with a laptop will be a big limit due to the lower processing and GPU speeds. You might be better off using DXtory to capture games directly into 720p so that you don't have to use up CPU to downscale in OBS. If you go that route though you will need to run the games in 720p windowed mode. But it's one possible option. I haven't really tested yet whether OBS down-scaling would be more CPU intensive over dxtory's so not positive here.

Also looks like you may be using and older version of OBS so you might want to upgrade to latest version. It has several improvements and bug fixes.

Thanks for that I have done as suggested in the top paragraph as i also stream WoW and LoL through monitor capture so thats why i have disabled aero. Sorry for not pointing that out.

Will do a test run in a couple of hours and let you know of any improvements :)

Hey all, I did some test runs and found out that my CPU is a bit sluggish but my internet upload speed is through the roof. So was wondering what settings would i need to have the least impact on my CPU (like the minimal settings) and what settings i would need to turn up that only affects my internet (maximum settings). As im not sure on what settings affect what in OBS :P

Cheers,

OK, what percentage of CPU usage is OBS using when your streaming? Main things to turn down to lower CPU usage would be resolution and probably less items in the scene. In other words, only a single image from webcam without overlays and so on. Also if your using a webcam, lower it's resolution in OBS also. Main things that will effect CPU usage are going to be resolution & frame rate. The higher they are the harder the CPU has to work to compress it.

On the upload side, main thing that effect that is your bitrate. I stream at 720p and use 2000 kb/s so with 128 AAC audio it general takes up around 2100 kb/s of my upload (It fluctuates a bit due to heavy action in game and what not). If I remember correctly the recommended bitrate for 720p video on twitch is 1800 kb/s to 2000 kb/s. You can use higher bitrate of course if you upload speed is high enough but they higher you go the more likely your viewer you have problems watching your stream. They will be more likely to get video stutter and so on because their internet may not be fast enough.

I noticed in your original log you have your bitrate at 3000 kb/s. I'd suggest dropping that to 2000 kb/s and giving it a try.
