Question / Help Multiple cameras, one or other always shows as black

Hello all,

I am hoping this is just something small that I am missing somewhere within OBS.

I have two camera's, one a Microsoft Lifecam Cinema, the other a Lifecam 3000 series. OBS detects them both fine, but when I go to stream, or even preview, one or the other just shows up as black.

If I start the stream with one disable, the other starts up fine, but when I go to add the other it's black. Doesn't matter which one I start with, it's consistent that the second one will not show up as anything more than a black screen.

Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

My first thought is that your USB ports might simply be overloaded as soon as the second camera tries to send his output. You could test connecting one to a different usb hub, for example front and back ports are often internally different hubs. Or you could try lowering the resolution of both devices, see if they can then start just fine.

One thing I noticed is that you have the "Desktop Microphone (5- Cinema - Microsoft LifeCam.)" selected both as Auxillary device and in one of your Webcams as the Webcam Audio device. I would definitely recommend to disable it in the Webcam and just use it as Auxillary device.

Thank you.

I've tried other hubs, and another camera. It appears to be an issue with the lifecam 3000 series. When I use a different second camera, and start the stream with nothing on, and then turn the other camera, then the lifecam cinema on, it works fine.

Also switched to a different microphone too. Works fine with two cameras for now, hopefully I'll have it with three soon.

Thank you for your help.

Double post, apologies,

But an update. I plugged the second of my HD cameras into my USB 3.0 ports, changed the audio input as you suggested, and start the stream with nothing running. I then bring the 3000 series up, followed by the other HD camera, finally followed by the SD camera, and all three work.

So thank you once again.
