Hi guys,

I'm using the latest versione of OBS for streaming, but when I open my streaming recorded file, QuickTime on Mac says that the file is damaged. I've tried to open in iMovie (latest version) and the video is ok, but there is no audio. But, if I open the file on Windows with Windows Media Player everything is fine. I need to be able to use my video on my iMac.
My stream settings:

CBR: enabled;
Padding CBR: enabled;
Quality: 10;
Max BitRate: 2800;
Buffer: 2800;
Codec Audio: AAC;
BitRate: 160;
Format: 44.1khz

Advanced - Video
x264 CPU Schema: veryfast;
x264 codec: high;
CFR: enabled;

This problem came out with the latest versione of the software.
Thanks,
Pierpa91

Re: mp4 recorded files doesn't open with QuickTime on Mac

Hrm, all your setitngs check out. Actually somewhat of a cause for concern a bit. Do you think you could do me a big favor and download 0.542 and see if the video file is the same from that version? There's something I'm sort of curious about that might have changed with versions. Would tell me a lot. (You can access older versions on the download page)

Also with version 0.542 the problem is the same. I downloaded version 0.542b.
This is very strange, because everything was working very well before the latest version.

EDIT FOR: I was thinking that another thing that is changed is my OS on the Mac, because I've installed Maverick on my iMac. Could be this the cause? Now I'm at university, but this evening I'll try different settings (change resolution to 480p for example, because yesterday I've tried to stream at 480 and if I'm not wrong the file was fine!)

ps. sorry for my not perfect english and thanks for your help! :)

ok, I've done some tries. I've completely reinstalled OBS resetting everything. I've noticed that if I enable custom x264 encoder settings and set, for example: opencl=true cfr=17, when I try to open with QuickTime Player on my mac the file doesn't work.

I've used version 0.583b.

Okay, if it doesn't work with 0.542 then it's definitely not what I though it was, and is most likely just those settings, as you stated.

Sorry Jim, but after two hours of stream with the settings I've told you before the file is broken again.
What can I do? I really need the file for my youtube channel.

I can also give you more info: I can open the file with VLC, WML and iMovie, but with this last one there is only video, no audio.

Thanks! :)

Are you -sure- you're using AAC? The only time when that would ever happen with the audio like that. I'd have to see first hand I think. VLC definitely shouldn't have that happen.

Yes, it is enabled. I use AAC, bitrate 160, 48khz stereo.
Sometimes everything is fine, after the stream the file works well. But yesterday, when I was streaming, I stop the stream 4 times, saved the file and restart the stream. The first two files were fine, the last two files didn't work.

I have enabled CBR and CFR, and also added as x264 personal settings: crf=16 opencl=true. x264 CPU schema is set to "veryfast", but I think with my iMac I can use also "faster".

've found a solution: I use Adobe Media Encoder to "repair" the files, exporting them as "youtube-ready". After that, everything is fine, QuickTime Player can open it and in iMovie I can see the audio trace.

Does it transcode the files when you use the "repair"? If it -doesn't- transcode, could you send me the bot hthe before and after files of a small example after using it?
