I'm trying to stream a little bit of light gaming (FTL, Game Dev Tycoon, etc.) as well as some programming from my laptop.
Specs:
i5-4200M @2.5GHz, boosts to 3.0 GHz.
8GB RAM
1920x1080
Windows 8.1
When I try to use a monitor capture, the FPS will not go above 20, and usually locks at 19, but drops to 15-16 at times. I looked around, and it seemed that this was an issue with Aero, but AFAIK, Windows 8.1 doesn't have Aero? I launched OBS in compatibility mode for Windows 7, and disabled Aero from there, but it didn't make a difference.
I've tried using both Quick Sync and x264, but both have the same issues. Changing the frame rate, resolution, bit rate, buffer size, quality settings, or anything does not make a difference.
It also seems to affect the actual display also, because things get laggier on the display itself when streaming/recording/previewing.
If I do a window capture, it will capture at whatever FPS I set it at, on whatever settings, and any drops are clearly due to performance limitations, but as soon as I turn on the monitor capture, it drops straight to 20. If I change the monitor capture size, the FPS will actually go up.
Apparently, log files are helpful, so here's mine:
