make sure you have chosen the right window. i'm not sure but maybe the launcher and the actual game are different windows.
also your "error description" isn't very detailed ;)

Does gamecapture really work with Minecraft? I swore I tried it the other day, and for the life of me, all it showed was a black screen.

Is it working for you in fullscreen? Because when I try to do minecraft in fullscreen mode with game capture, it outputs a black screen. Then to get it to capture minecraft again, I have to exit full screen mode, close minecraft, and then restart it to get OBS to capture it again.

Indeed.
It's exactly as Xerouz wrote.

Here's my workaround:
I've installed Sizer and size my Minecraft in Windowed Mode to 1080p.

It's not elegant, but it works until we can use OBS in Fullscreenmode.
