Bug Report Microphone Stops Working... cannot seem to pinpoint cause

Hello there. I have been having some issues with the microphone randomly cutting out during my stream, at some point anywhere between like 15-45s in a little "blip" can be heard and then the mic ceases to work. It seems to be relevant to one of 3 things, but I am not sure

  • Issues with a new webcam interfearing (using a Microsoft LifeCam Q2F - 13)
  • Issue with trying to activate chroma key on my webcam (which I guess would also be related to the webcam)
  • Just in general an overworked processor

The first issue generally ceased after I disabled the mic in the webcam itself, but it now seems to occur whenever chroma key is enabled on the webcam. Ill include log files below during a preview where the mic crashed and where the mic worked for the whole duration.

Edit: Just tested it with another webcam I have, definitely seems to be gravitated to issues with the webcam itself, anyone have experience with this specific webcam on OBS

Edit 2: I may have fixed the issue by installing Microsoft's application to accompany the Lifecam, wont know for sure though until my stream today lol. I will report back then.

Re: Microphone Stops Working... cannot seem to pinpoint caus

I have this problem with my Blue Snowball.

EDIT: Log attached. I'm using a Virtual Audio Cable for my mic as I am pumping it through a software compressor before feeding it to OBS. This bug happens even when the Virtual Audio Cable and software compressor are not used though. This log was made with "Use Mic QPC timestamps" enabled, but the sync issue still exists when that option is disabled.

Warning: This log is 4MB in size
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/608 ... 054-59.log

EDIT 2: To further clarify, my desktop audio/video are totally in sync. My webcam is also in sync. It is just my mic that falls out of sync, and ultimately stops being picked up if "Use Mic QPC timestamps" is enabled. It happens every time I stream on both x86 and x64, and drifts out of sync by several seconds in a matter of minutes.

Re: Microphone Stops Working... cannot seem to pinpoint caus

I hate to bump after only a few days, but my Summer break is coming up and it would be nice to be able to stream while I have the free time before Summer term begins. Hopefully someone can take a look at this.

Re: Microphone Stops Working... cannot seem to pinpoint caus

For some reason, using a different USB port for my mic appears to have fixed this issue. It isn't perfect and I do get a few timestamp errors in the logs, but they are few and far between.

Changing the port for various devices will very commonly fix a lot of issues.

Re: Microphone Stops Working... cannot seem to pinpoint caus

So I've had this bug crop up again. This time changing ports did not fix the issue.

The logs are also a bit different this time: Instead of continually getting more and more out of sync, the Timestamps start at around 400 units behind, then quickly diminish to ~0, then no more QPC timestamp errors are printed to the log. However, OBS NEVER resumes picking up my mic. When I first begin a stream/preview, there is a brief flash of activity on the Mic level bar. After that, it drops completely to zero and never moves again, even after the QPC timestamp errors stop.

I use a Blue Yeti without any issues. Can you ensure that the device format in the microphone's recording properties is set to 2 channel, 16 bit, 44100 Hz? And that both Exclusive Mode options are checked?

My Snowball was set to 1 Channel, 16 bit, 48000 Hz. I just dropped it down to 44100 Hz, we'll see if this fixes it in the long-run.

Re: Microphone Stops Working... cannot seem to pinpoint caus

Some of you are getting this bug because you have "Use Mic QPC Timestamps" enabled in advanced. I should probably remove it from advanced and make it only enablable via ini file because many people keep turning this special-case fix on for some reason and then wonder why it's not working properly later

I am also having this same issue. I do not have "Use Mic QPC timestamps" enabled and my mic stops being picked up. I am getting the following errors about every 20-30 minutes. Makes streaming nearly impossible.

Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? It would be a HUGE help. Thanks!

Re: Microphone Stops Working... cannot seem to pinpoint caus

I actually am somewhat baffled why it would still cause that problem even with the QPC option off. Ugh, quite frustrating admittedly. You might have to come around for debugging some time, which sucks, but I need to see directly what's going on more in real time

I am having the same issue with my Blue Yeti Pro and I do not have "Use Mic QPC timestaps" enabled either. The software may record my mic for anywhere between 15 seconds to 5 minutes but then it will cut out. After this happens it refuses to pick up the mic again until I stop, then again, start my recording only to have it cut out once again. This wasn't an issue for me until I started using the microphone with the USB as it was originally intended. Now recording and/or streaming is quite literally impossible.

Guys I figured out why mine wasn't working and perhaps this will help some of you. It has nothing to do with OBS itself. My issue was with the microphone's driver. If you are working on a windows 8 computer you can go to the driver settings and there should be an option to choose between "power saver" mode and "always on". The default mode is power saver and that shuts off the microphone at random to save power. Unfortunately this option appears to be permanent on the windows 7 driver. I switched to the "always on" mode and I have been able to record for over 3 hours straight.

I'm having the same issue with my blue snowball, all the sudden during midstream it cuts out randomly. :/ Hopefully they find a fix.

I have a Logitech G930 (wireless headset) and it always worked just fine with OBS. I could record for hours.

I am not sure when it started, but now, sometimes OBS stops getting the sound from my mic. First the sound gets some stuters, then it goes on "fail mode". It happens when I am using VoiceMeeter or without it.

The weird thing is it is still working on VoiceMeeter (I can see the "bar" going up and down on it) when the bug happens. If I just stop recording/streaming and start again, OBS starts getting the sound from my mic. (even if I don't close OBS and run it again).

@Kora - I tried finding that option about "power saver" for my headset (or just the mic) but couldn't. Can you point me the right direction? I am running Windows 8.1.

Thanks for your attention.
