Question / Help Microphone Problem

I just downloaded OBS and when i use my mic the speech is garbled or not working at all. I tried it on a different recorder and it worked fine. Anyone know how to fix this?
 
Are you running Ventrilo at the same time? For me, Ventrilo doesn't play nice with anything else wanting to use my microphone too, and garbles my speech.
