Bug Report Mic Static

So I recently tried to make the switch from Xsplit to OBS and while I love the visual aspect of it, my audio isn't too good. The biggest issue right now that I have is all the static that is going on. My mic never had or has a problem with this during a stream with Xsplit, but with OBS it does. I've tried turning down my sound and mic boost up and mic boost down with mic volume up, but that static is always there. Even if I'm able to get that static down its still there and all it does is make me super quiet. Static isn't from a fan or anything because I don't have that issue with Xsplit and I always have my stream muted if I am watching it plus I have all my sound going into my headphones. I'm pretty sure it has to do with OBS and its settings, I don't know though. Any ideas?

The only thing I can think of is that Xsplit may have background noise suppression and/or echo cancellation options for the microphone. That would be the only reason I can see that would cause you to get a different sound from the same device in two programs.

I've used AAC and MP3, with higher and lower bitrates with the same problem. I've messed with this on other streaming apps and have no problems with any of the settings. Thanks.

This might be the case, but I somewhat doubt it.

edit: Hrm, this might be what is going on after all, after doing a bit of digging. Unfortunately, OBS has no built in noise cancellation so in order to work around this, you will either need a mic that does a better job of filtering background noise, or some sort of program that will apply a noise filter or something for you before OBS picks it up.

Are you sure that OBS isn't actually using the built-in mic from your webcam as opposed to the mic from your headset?

*edit* Oh, you're trying to use the sound from its mic. I don't know what to offer, maybe Jim knows something about it.

I unfortunately don't have a specific answer at this point in time, you may just have to wait until sound filtering is implemented. usually the logitech ones are pretty good and don't have problems.

You have no audio driver. "High definition audio device" is Windows default template for audio drivers that have no official driver installed. Find that then the problem should be fixed.

I have the same problem as OP. With my mic plugged in, but muted via the dongle, I get a consistent white noise that is unapparent elsewhere in windows/ts3/skype/xsplit. My windows microphone volume is quite low, when I "listen to the device" and I do have a low volume problem with Xsplit so it may be possible that all other software, other than OBS, is filtering/lowering the volume of my mic to hide the white noise. That said, I have non-windows drivers installed so it shouldn't be a driver issue.

I'm having the same issues, I haven't done much troubleshooting on it yet. I've got a Sennheiser PC 360 and with the mic in the up position (muted) I get a lot of static as seen in last nights stream of The Last of Us here: http://www.twitch.tv/trexid/b/428369943

I also have a logitech webcam plugged into my system but its not apart of any of my scenes... Still looking for a fix on this.

Thanks Ace mine does the same thing. I didn't get a chance to do any further testing last night on my machine other than when I disabled my Microphone in the Sound > Recording > Devices of windows sound settings the white noise disappeared. I had to restart OBS after re-enabling it to get it to come back.

I still need to double check that I have MFG sound drivers and not Microsoft defaults. This seems like a common issue that should have a simple fix.
