So I finished up building my new computer and I have been stress testing, installing drivers, and installing programs all day.
I finally got around to installing OBS again and I customized the settings to my liking but this time I changed the FPS to 60 rather than 30 to harness the new power of my computer.
I loaded up a game of Counter Strike Global Offensive and started streaming. My base resolution is 1080p downscaled to 720p. Using the very fast preset at 3000 bitrate. I get around 65fps in CSGO and my CPU usage while streaming and gaming is around 30%.
I then noticed something peculiar and the lower right corner of OBS is showing that the scene is being rendered at ~43fps rather than 60. I double checked my CPU usage and it was still ~30%.
Why isn't OBS using more CPU power to render at a full 60fps? I only have one theory as to why this is happening and I'm pretty sure I'm right but I wanted to ask the experts.
I know OBS utilizes the GPU in order to help downscale the scene and make rendering more efficient. Because I don't have a dedicated graphics card just yet, I'm currently rendering and gaming solely on an i7-4790k. My theory is that CPU power isn't the problem but the weak HD4600 is what is bottlenecking my OBS. I plan on getting a GTX 880 when it releases but I just wanted to know if the HD4600 was the problem or if its something else I need to optimize.
Thank you.
