Does it feel choppy or slow to any bigger extent when recording?

If final recordings are lagging maybe it could be due to codec/playback problems or that the disk you're recording to cannot keep up with the recording due to being busy. There's also a slight chance that I'm just making you more confused since I guess there could be something more with the preset. Just quickly throwing out my coin here.

Make sure your playback doesn't lag when using something else like VLC or media player classic, maybe try to change recording location to another disk if possible. Maybe consider using quick sync encoding?

I tried playing through Media Player, playback is still lagging. Quick sync encoding is not an option i can choose, only x264.

Try installing VLC media player just to make sure it's just not only the playback in WMP that's causing your lag, also there's some steps one must take in order to enable quick sync. Since it's supported by your CPU I'd try enabling it the rest needed for it is there. Check out this thread:

It might help to try out quick sync for encoding depending on what sort of games you run.

Just throwing it out there.
