Local Recording - Audio Gaps

As you can see in the attached image, my local recordings are having audio issues. There are random, very infrequent, gaps in the waveform. I originally thought the issue was having was OBS adding blank space, as though it was dropping frames, but after further inspection it is not. It is actually adding blank space in the track by moving the correct audio. If you look at the screenshot, the top track is the OBS audio and the lower track is a local recording in Audio Hijack. Notice the gap in the OBS track? after that gap you can see both tracks are in sync, but the part before the gab in the OBS track has be shifted left. I can actually cut the gap out, and slide the pieces back together and everything is lined up. It literally inserted extra space mid track.

This only happens 1-3 times in an hour.

System is a loaded 2017 iMac with 64 GB RAM, on Mac OS Cataline.

OBS is up to date.

Any ideas why it would actually insert blank audio like this?

As always, thanks for any possible help.

I should have added that has happened for a few months. The iMac has now been completely reinstalled, just a week ago, and it’s still happening. Audio interface is a Presonus 26c and the mic is a Heil PR40.
