I have an internet download limit, but I'm not sure whether live streaming affects it. I was recently contacted by Shaw, telling me I've reached the limit. I'm not sure whether it was because of live streaming. I use twitch.tv as my live stream service. Someone who knows please answer!

Streaming only consume Upload... but if you watching your own stream it will consume download, and no, streaming don't limit anything, just consuming, for example if you streaming at 3000kbps and you have 10000kbps you'll have 7000kbps but if you stop streaming you have 10000kbps again.

By internet limit, I mean my monthly internet limit. Say, around 400GB. But regardless, streaming will only take up as uploading?

Streaming uses mostly upload. But this 'download' limit your provider is talking about is probably combined. Unless they explicitly mention an upload limit, they also have the same, or an unspecified upload limit. Providers usually don't expect people to upload a lot, that's just not something most customers do. Streamers are an exception in that area.

Other than that, watching streams takes up as much bandwidth as streaming, so if you have been watching many streams, this may trigger a download limit.

i wouldnt even try to stream if my provider had a traffic limit since they going to start bitching about it anyway in most cases

It's most likely a 'transfer limit', not just a download limit. In which case, yes, livestreaming definitely will affect it, and use up a LOT of it. This is very, very likely to be the case.

If it's truly only a download limit, then livestreaming will still affect it (even if only due to ACK traffic), but nowhere near as much.
