Question / Help Large FPS drops for local recording?

So I used to be able to record just fine using my old video card which was an xfx radeon hd 6870 1gb card.

Recently I upgraded to a amd sapphire 7970 card. When I try to record with OBS using the same settings as I used to I get a large fps drop to the point where shooters and any sort of fast paced game are borderline unplayable while recording.

Is there some way to fix this? I can provide more information if necessary.

Log file would be nice. you do know when changing video cards of different generations, it is best to run a full DDU uninstall in safemode then reinstall...and yes, OBS uses the GPU for downscaling and other things that GPUs do best.
 
I did do a full uninstall / reinstall of the display drivers when I first swapped out the card. I'll post the log shortly.

Those are the same settings more or less with the previous card. I believe the only difference is sometimes I downsampled to 1280 x 720 with the previous card.

downscaling can make a huge diifference. as for other settings (sorry, I cannot see pastebin from here for some reason, change preset to superfast, buffer to 0, and uncheck CBR (if its not done already).

I tried it with those setting and the fps drop still occurs. Thanks though.

downscaled to 720p. anyway, if you wouldn't mind, I cannot see your log from here, could you post your log like this kindly?

I dont see the changes you made in that logfile

scene buffering to 700ms
preset to superfast (with 0 buffer, you'll see no quality loss just larger files)


Also, crf 13 seems a bit low. might try 15-20 instead. raise the number 1 at a time and test until you can visibly see a quality loss. use brighter scenes and the same demo video if possible. this will help you not overuse the crf command. once you see quality loss, bump it back down to the previous number. default is 23 btw


disable the OBS preview window has also been known to help. right click on the preview, click preview, then uncheck "enable view"
