I'm assuming you've read through here: https://obsproject.com/forum/threads/laptop-black-screen-when-capturing-read-here-first.5965/ so can you please post a logfile?

Hi,

Yes I have changed thoughs settings, my laptop only shows the Gtx860m card it dosent have any other options for a gcard, how do I post a logfile?

you'll find the log file under help > log-files
it will list several of the last logs that you can look at.

I am in the same boat where all i am getting is a black-screen when trying to screen capture or window capture from certain programs. I'd like to get a good answer from someone..... it seems everyone reffers to that post when dealing with the NVIDIA graphics card and then no one helps after that to help whe that doesn't fix the problem.

let's get some help on this!

I have the same problem here with the same card like Stretch (GTX 860M). I changed the nvidia-settings for the OBS.exe to the Nvidia-GPU like it says in the link but I still have a black monitor.
Funfact: when I create a Scene capturing only a window like Firefox, it works fine. But capturing the whole monitor or capturing games still only brings the black monitor :(

Feldeffekt is that Lenovo Y50-70? Have you tried selecting Intel card through nvidia settings for monitor capture? I was able to record LoL gameplay running obs with Intel card while the game ran on dedicated Amd card on old laptop, but it was quite laggy. Have you been able to get anything recorded yet or do you get black screen for everything?

switchable graphics doesn't work with screen capture form my understanding because it is trying to use the on board intel graphics while monitor capture is going. with other capture methods (window, game) it will work.

Yes it is Lenovo Y50-70. There is no option to choose Intel card in OBS, it only displays the nvidia card.
I don't get a black screen for everything. I can stream windows like the Firefox Browser, Teamspeak, Spotify or the webcam, but when I choose to capture the whole screen, I only get the black screen. The same thing with gameplay-capturing... only black screen.

It works with window-mode, but not with game-mode. When I start CS:GO or some other games and choose to capture a window, the window of the game is not listed in OBS. So this doesn't work as well :(

switchable graphics is one of the more difficult tasks of OBS. since the primary graphics is always changing depending on the app.

Feldeffekt, I meant setting obs to work on Intel card from Nvidia 3d settings (or whatever the nvidia gpu controller is called) and try capturing monitor.
Also since you guys already own y50, how does it perform in games, is the display washed out? i5 or i7? GPU 4gb or 2gb? Sad or hybrid HD?
I'm looking to buy y50 and possibly stream League of Legend, so that's why I'm asking.
Anyway, only person that I've seen stream league on laptop with nvidia GPU (gtx770m) is this http://www.twitch.tv/itzhao so maybe we should ask him

Yeah, this works to capture the whole monitor now, but it doesn't capture the game. The game (in my case CS:GO) uses the nvidia gpu (otherwise it would be hard to play it) and all other applications use the Intel graphics. When I start the game, OBS is still capturing the applications on desktop, like Steam, Browser-window, etc. which are running behind the game.
Same thing with the game-capturing mode of OBS - still black monitor.

I suppose the only way to get this solved would be to exclude the integrated Intel graphics completely(?)

I only use it with a second monitor and I am very happy with it. I only play CS:GO and sometimes SC2 or FIFA15 with the Lenovo - these games have an acceptable performance on low-mid graphic settings. Display isn't washed out. One weakness is the touchpad of the Lenovo, but I mostly use it with an external mouse.

Which encoder are you using? If quicksync, then you need to set QVShelper.exe to run on nvidia card as well...
If that doesn't help: I know this sounds illogical, but try running the game on nvidia while running obs x264 encoder game capture on Intel; for some reason this was the only way I could game capture on my AMD GPU laptop. Maybe it works for you.

Also, how are the temperature and display brightness on y50-70?

I use x264. In OBS I only can choose the NVIDIA card - the intel gpu is not provided in OBS options :(

Y50-70 has a really good display im my opinion. I don't watch the temperature, but in most cases the fans aren't hearable, so the temperatures can't be too high. While gaming the laptop is often (maybe permanent?) ventilated, but I use a headset, so I can't hear the fans anyway :)

Guys,

I bought the Lenovo Y50-70 (i7, 8gb ram, GTX860m 4gb, 256 SSD, W8.1) today and can confirm that I can record League of Legends gameplay (game capture) with it.
I wasn't able to capture monitor though, and have yet to try other games.
Anyway, the point of this is to post my log and let you know that I was able to capture with OBS.

Regarding capturing the monitor, I've tried running OBS on Intel GPU and then on NVIDIA GPU, but couldn't get it to work. Not sure what to make of this; does this mean that NEITHER of the GPUs is displaying the monitor? Could it be that monitor actually runs on processor alone (I believe it's called "MS Display Adapter?

This doesn't bother me that much because typically I won't need to capture monitor, but I'm just trying to help you :)

I was also able to capture Chrome and Opera (no hate pls) with window capture, and, since I have those two running on Intel gpu, I changed the OBS to run on Intel Card (from NVIDIA Control Panel, NOT from OBS settings) while recording these.

Hopefully there comes an end to this OBS Laptop Confusion era LOL

Hmm nice and congrats! I don't have League of Legends so I can't test it. Games I tried: CS:GO and Starcraft 2. None of them working with game capture - just black monitor.

Thanks anyway for your help and have fun with your new machine ;)

Welp, I don't own Starcraft 2, but fortunately I do own CS:GO and was able to record gameplay with game capture.
Here's the log file, if it helps :P
