Hi!

The direct question would be; Do I need a dedicated GPU on the streaming machine at all?

I have a gaming PC already which an i5 3570K, 8GB RAM, R9 280x, but now I got a desktop machine from work that is an i7 5820K with 32GB RAM but no dedicated GPU. I got some old GPUs laying around here, but I'm just wondering, is it even needed, considering that that machine is only there to encode and push video, especially with a avermedia capture card in it?

any answers are greatly appreciated.

Yes, a GPU is required. OBS uses it for scene compositing. It doesn't have to be really powerful (the integrated GPU on the 3570K would work fine for example) but since the 5820K doesn't have an iGPU you'll need to put something else in there. A particularly bad/old/underpowered GPU will negatively affect your performance even on a 2PC setup.

Would a R7 250x suffice?

Also thanks for the hint that the 5820 doesn't have an iGPU, cause I received the components to assemble, didn't even know that.
