Question / Help Is This Good Enough To Stream?

I'm looking to buy a brand new laptop. And I've been reading and looking. The best laptop for my budget is Dell - Inspiron 15.6" Laptop - Intel Core i7 - 8GB Memory - 1TB Hard Drive . I'm not trying to spend more then $800 on a laptop.
Will this be enough to stream gameplay with an Elgato Game Capture and Webcam?

These are the specs.
4th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-4510U processor
8GB PC3-12800 DDR3L SDRAM
1TB Serial ATA hard drive (5400 rpm)
Intel® HD Graphics 4400

The only part I would be worked about is that it doesn't have a dedicated GPU, but the 4th Gen integrated graphics should be enough as long as you don't plan on gaming and streaming from the computer.

Aside from that, just be careful of computer placement/ventilation when you are streaming because encoding and compressing will generate quite a bit of heat and some laptops are notorious for bad cooling.

Thanks for the reply. So then the laptop is good enough just to stream? Because that was my only plan just to stream with my Elgato and webcam. I don't plan on playing any games on the laptop. And as for computer placement/ventilation I already have a laptop stand that has two fans on it to extort heat and cool the computer.

uhm that laptop is actually utter garbage ...

its an hyperthreaded dualcore i7 (4threads)

and theres no dedicated gpu only the igpu

if you want a notebook as a dedicated streaming machine make sure that you at least get a real quadcore instead of a ht'ed dualcore and maybe if possible some dedicated gpu something like a 750m or whatever they put in those cheap notebooks

so no this hardware is by far not enough especially since its a notebook and they just cant perform as well as a normal machine

in the end this machine is probably able to put out some sort of stream but i doubt that you will be satisfied with the result

So then what would you actually recommend?

Like he said...a dedicated desktop pc with a quadcore or stronger processor with a non integrated gpu, something like a gtx 660 and a i5 4690k would be pretty decent. But yeah, that laptop isn't suited for that kind of work.

So how does this laptop sound.
MSI Computer Corp. GP60 LEOPARD-010;9S7-16GH11-010 15.6-Inch Laptop

  • Core i5-4200M 2.5 GHz (3 MB Cache)
  • 8 GB DDR3L SDRAM
  • 750 GB 5400 rpm Hard Drive
  • 15.6-Inch Screen, NVIDIA Geforce GT840M with 2GB GDDR3 VRAM

Hmm no....try to get yourself a desktop pc if you can, and otherwise you are gonna have to live with a 540p @ 30 FPS stream.

the cpu is literally the same with the same turbo but a higher baseclock

but your have a dedicated gpu ... in the end the system is still way too weak

"Way too weak" is a relative term, it depends on what you are wanting to achieve in your quality. If we knew what quality you are trying to get, it would be a lot easier to make recommendations.

I'm trying to at least stream in 720p. Would a Alienware X51 be good enough to sustain a 720p stream?

please do keep in mind that I'm trying to stream games from my playstation 4 with an elgato and webcam. I am not trying to play games and stream from the computer itself.

it is still not worth the investment if you could get proper hardware for the same price

especially a hyperthreaded mobile dualcore will have problems with encoding thats a simple fact

so what are you suggesting I get??

i cant suggest notebooks ... because fuck notebooks if you want a decent one you either spent 1500+ on it or you are lucky enough to get a decent one around 800

but a desktop for 800$ is actually a fucking beast its not high end ... but its more than just a really fine gaming rig which can encode without a problem.

those are the only two notebooks i could find with a dedicated gpu and actual i7 at an decent price point and are actually available but i cant guarantee that they will perform well.

this is an desktop ... you might need some 5$ keyboard and mouse ans probably a cheap ass monitor

The link works. Thanks a lot. Appreciate it. And it's amazing how you found all those components for a cheaper price then they actually are. Unfortunately I just ordered an Alienware X51 Desktop, which I believe can be upgraded later if I want a better graphics card and etc. However I'm going to save that link and use those parts for when I gain more money and decide to build a powerhouse pc.

An alienware...man....such a shame. I always build my computers myself, it's a lot more fun. And you can actually select your components individually, so you'll never be mad at the weaker component in your system, since you chose them. It's just a shame how people think complicated when it comes to pc's....it's pretty easy, it just costs time.
