Question / Help is monitor capture with win 7 good??

theres 1 game that i like to play and have only streamed once. the game literally has one window for the main menu and another window for in game matches. so i have to switch scenes in it constantly and i dont have a capture card. i wanna use monitor capture but i remember i heard somewhere that it is really laggy with windows 7 OS

Well, I don't think it's that it's real lagging; just not the best way. OBS itself recommends Window or Game Capture modes over Monitor capture.

However you can use Monitor Capture mode, but, in "Video" section for "Settings" within OBS you need to check the box to "Disable Aero". As this will help to make sure the frame rate isn't real low when you record.

Please note this will only disable Aero while OBS is running and should enable it once you close out OBS. And when you do this it will cause Windows to revert to a more basic look color scheme for the start bar, open windows etc.

If you don't disable Aero it will cause the video to have extremely low frame rate while recording.

It's completely terrible in Vista and 7 and you shouldn't use it. What you should do instead is use the scene switcher plugin and have OBS automatically switch between your scenes for you.

yeah guys lol ur right i was using it with heroes and generals. my dropped frames wouldnt stop going up. all the way to 30 percent haha

The alternative to monitor capture is game capture pointed to DWM.exe. this will show your primary desktop and is recommended to keep aero enabled for this method as well.

you should probably use scene switcher built into OBS now as well. play with it and see if either method works best.

you might need to run OBS as admin if capturing DWM.exe. unsure on this though.
