Question / Help Is it possible to use 4.00 downscaling?

My computer barely handles streaming with OBS, and I was wondering what the best tweaks I could do are.

I capture at 1080 because it's my monitor's native resolution and use the 3.00 downscale. I wouldn't mind streaming at a lower resolution and was wondering if I can force 4.00 downscale.

Related question is if the 1080 source is really killing my fps - like if I capture at 1280x720 instead but use less downscale, (making the output resolution the same), how big a difference would that lower source resolution make, relatively speaking?

Same question regarding x264 encoder preset, (VeryFast, SuperFast, UltraFast), relatively speaking how much does it affect performance? And I read that slower presets will allow for the bitrate to be set lower, so does a higher bitrate negate the negative effect of a faster preset and how much higher should it be?

Same question but, how about bitrate? Does higher bitrate mean more work for my system, or less work? Of course I know the quality will change but it's a performance problem I have and I would like to start with tweaks that will have the least impact on quality while having the greatest impact on performance.

CPU: AMD 2.4GHz Dual-Core Opteron 180
RAM: 2GB

Thank you very much!

That processor is almost 10 years old.
It surprises me that it actually works. However without a logfile we can not give you any advice.
But with that kind of old hardware, dont expect much that can be done.

Wel not that much processors do work with OBS that are that old. (due to missing dx10.1 features on the processor)

All of your questions are related to your cpu and in this case it is not that powerfull to current day standarts.

in a nutshell:

lower resolution = less cpu processing power needed for encoding.

encoder preset: slower= most cpu processing power needed (and best quality but even top notch cpu's can't really handel it well)
ultrafast= least cpu processing power needed (and worst quality)

bitrate is both related to your uploadspeeds and what yours system can handle.

But if you want any more advice to see if there is any more room to get a bit more out of that system, a log file will still be needed and will be the quickest way to help you.

Sorry but I had to clarify this, the missing dx10 features are on the GPU/iGPU, not the CPU :)
Apart of that, greendweller is absolutely correct.
