Question / Help Is it possible to add seperate audio recording tracks?

Hey all OBS guys out there, I gotta say, I love OBS. And one thing that I think would make it stand apart even more is the ability to record audio on a separate channel/file. Here's my issue... I have a Mic built into my webcam, and sadly its quality isn't that great (Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000.)

The current way I do things, is record my VoiceOver with Audcaity, then easily sync the audio together in Lightworks. The problem however, is that I have to edit the Audio to re-sync with my lips every time. This is very aggravating. I'm pretty fed up about this situation /ragequit

Sometimes the audio is off by 30 seconds, sometimes 2 minutes. It's really frustrating :(

So, instead, could you add a feature to record Voice Over to a separate file? So when I hit "start recording," it records both at the same time. I just hope this would help, since the audio being recorded is the same frame rate as the video!

Thanks guys, and if any of you have had this issue, how did you solve it?

Are you using a different mic in audacity or are you just using audacity to clean up the audio when your doing the voice over?

I record the game footage with OBS, and the games Audio, then I record the Voice Over using Audacity, so it's in a separate audio file, then I can edit it to clean it up and make sure the audio quality is par.

Are the game footage recordings live stream or local recordings? If it's local recording you could try recording the game at a high bitrate without webcam, then once game-play is recorded you would then do a second recording at your normal bitrate and playback the video inside OBS and add your webcam to the overlay and do the voice over in the second recording. You would of course loose a bit of video quality on game-play doing it that way.

Personally, I'd suggest doing the voice over at the same time as your doing the game-play record then demuxing audio from the mp4, then you can open the aac audio in audacity for cleanup.

Another option is to eliminate the audacity all together by cleaning up the mic audio with VSThost and some free noise reduction plugins. That's pretty much how I do my voice overs because I also have a cheap mic that sounds bad. There are a few posts here on the OBS forums on how to do it and I believe some youtube how-to videos on it. It's using free programs and vst plugins so it's worth checking out.

Cool, I'll give it a shot, however, from what I've seen on the YouTubes, it seems the Audio will be recorded as a separate file, which is fine, however, there still may be a problem when I get into the Video editing and having to sync everything up again :(

But VSTHost is still pretty new to me, (i just downloaded it now), so I'll do some more research before I concrete my opinion, haha.

And yeah, the recording is Local, I don't have the fancy option of having two monitors right now :9

Got it working, wow, what a great program! Thanks for the tip! Looks like I'm keeping this beauty! Now all I need to figure out is how to increase the microphone volume! Thanks!
