Question / Help Is it possible: Local Recording at higher bitrate than stream?

I'd be o.k. with the idea of just having 2 obs executables running, one for local one for stream, i suspect my cpu could handle it, and if it can't i wont blame obs... But when I try, obs refuses to open a second executable...

Is there a way around this? like running obs thru an emulator or something?
 
In your OBS shortcut, add "-multi" to the end of the target to open two OBS instances at the same time.

The OBS rewrite will support encoding at different bit rates simultaneously.
 
Webcam only works on 1 or the other, can't get it to show on both instances. I've had same problem trying to use webcam in obs + google hangout, or obs + webcam recording software or whatever. I think my webcam is, by default, only allowed to send it's self to 1 application at a time, I've got friends who don't have this issue, is there perhaps an option in windows 7 that's setting exclusivity on the webcam?
 
No, it's a problem with DirectShow devices in general. They can typically only be used by one program at a time.
 
Manycam is not an open source app. It sucks big.
In my case, I'd like to have one instance of OBS mirroring the other.
Even when changing scenes via keyboard shortcuts.
Have two different webcams for two different angles and It'd be awesome to have them working in both instances.
Already tried to do that with no success. In fact, one instance mirros the other but in one of them the Logitechs don't work.
 
Just use two instances of OBS. One instance uses the webcam, the second one records the first one. If you have two monitors just do a projection / full screen preview and grab it with the second OBS. The only problem is when you have only one monitor. Either you can just do a fullscreen preview ago, but that way you cant see any obs controls. Or if you had a fake / virtual monitor you can project the preview there and capture it with the second obs. The only problem is, I dont know how to create a second virtual monitor. But it works with a single monitor too, its just you cant see anything else besides your preview.

Well, by now you can use OBS-MP which will just need one instance if you want to record the same footage at a different bitrate.
