Question / Help iPad Mini recording.

Hi All,

I am trying to use OBS to record game play directly from my iPad mini. (retina) I am currently using AirServer to mirror my iPad mini onto my PC.

The issue that I am having is that when I use OBS to record from AirSever there is a black border around my mirrored device.

The videos I am trying to create will be uploaded to youtube and this black border is shown on youtube due to the aspect rations. I have tried using youtube tags to adjust this but cropping cuts off a lot of my iPad screen and stretching ruins the quality.

Is there an easy way to record my iPad mini screen so that the videos can be uploaded straight to youtube.

If you need any more info or screenshots then please let me know.

Regards,

Chris

I would set OBS to your exact iPad resolution (or the resolution it should have in your AirServer). If you then capture it, and assuming the black borders are "bigger" than the iPad resolution, you could just center the source on your scene in OBS and the black borders should not be recorded.
If you need a more detailed explanation just tell me.

Hi Jack0r,

I have set my Base Resolution to the resolution that AirServer is mirroing my iPad mini (1322 x 992 ) However large portions of the screen are still cut off. (See Attached)

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

Chris

I would think the scaling of the AirServer might be off then. The original resolution of your iPad is 2048 x 1536 right? You could see if selecting the source with a right-click then choosing Position/Size and selecting "Fit to screen", helps.
Or did you resize your source at some point? You can also choose "Reset" in the same menu.

Hi Jack0r,

If I have my base resolution to 2048x1536 and then choose the "fit to screen option" then this is what I get (See attachment)

Cheers,

Chris

Hmm, you could try, crop the black parts with OBS, and then fit to scene again.

If the picture then looks blurry you could reset the size (dont accidently reset the cropping). Now if you close OBS you can check the size of your source in your scenes.xconfig. Its located under %appdata%\OBS. Open it with a text editor and search for "Village", that should get you to your source, now look for a section that looks something like that:
Code:
        cx : 1920
        cy : 1080
        x : 0
        y : 0
        crop.left : 104.985
        crop.top : 64.918
        crop.right : 194.954
        crop.bottom : 61.9672
My example source is originally 1920 pixels wide and 1080 high.
Left and Right crop remove (rounded) 105 and 195pixels, so that makes 1620 wide.
Top and Bottom remove (rounded) 62 and 66 pixels, so that makes 952.
If you now set your OBS to this custom resolution 1620x952 (of course calculate your values) then center the source, we should finally have our desired output.

Thank you Jack0r

My source size is 2048x1536 As you mentioned this is the iPad mini retina resolution.

However my monitor is only 1680x1050 and I am guessing that this is causing the issue. Also AirSever seems to be mirroring my iPad at 1400x1050. Is this related to my monitor resolution as is there anyway round this?

I assumed that if I set my base resolution to 2048x1536 then this would allow me to capture the entire iPad screen.

Ah, sorry, missed your question. Well have you tried to set obs to 1400x1050 then?
The monitor will definitely limit the AirServer I guess, and thus you might have gotten the problems.
