Question / Help Installing Elgato Capture HD with OBS

Hello,

I'm able to stream my PS3 to Twitch in a roundabout way by using Window capture to display the Game Capture HD software that comes from the Elgato website. This software will show the console, and then I resize the gaming window to perfectly fit the OBS screen. The resolution is surprisingly good and the encoding is fine.

The problem with this indirect setup is that I'm unable to take full advantage of OBS CLR Browser plugin to show follower alerts and song names of music request.

I followed this tutorial to a T, yet when I try to launch elgato as the global source/video capture card, OBS freezes a bit, and then shows a "NO SIGNAL" and black screen.

Again i follow the above link's tutorial verbatim, but am not successful.

relevant software/hardware config is as follows:

OBS 32 bit (installed with clr browser plugin)
OS - Windows 7 64bit
PC - I7, 12gb RAM
Game console - PS3 console (runs elgato's composite cable into capture card)
Elgato capture card runs from HDMI out to TV
Elgato capture card is connected by USB into PC.

Any assistance would be helpful.

Make sure that your PS3 is running at 720p or whatever the resolution is. Then when you add it into OBS click Edit scene, then right click on the Elgato and select properties. Then next to the dropdown hit configure. Set it inside the menu there to playstation 3, component if its 720p, check the box for 60 fps is possible or set it to standard/composite for 480p/i. That should do it.

Thank you @Neko X, you were absolutely correct!

I just needed to hit the settings button in order for it launch the mini-game capture hd software. I was able to run it at 1080i, by going into that window and selecting it in the drop down. I tried 720p as well but the picture is noticeably blurry and less sharp, compared to 1080i.

OBS was able to recognize the capture card and display my console right away. Thanks again, im very grateful!
