Question / Help I want to use Monitor Capture. I have a very good reason to.

Whenever I search up other people incapable of using Monitor Capture due to switchable graphics, they always say the same thing: Why not use Window/Game Capture?

Well, in about an hour, I am starting a stream in which I will be capturing Game Maker Studio. I tested Window Capture, and it does not capture popup windows such as the Sprite Editor, Global Game Settings, or file opening prompts. Also, Game Capture seems to want to stretch the window out a bit to dimensions it doesn't actually have, evident by how my cursor doesn't go all the way to the stream game's window edge before going off the actual game's window.

If you have a workaround for both of these, then fire away. Otherwise, I don't think you can tell me how "unprofessional-looking" and "unnecessary" Monitor Capture is.

My question is either how do I get Monitor Capture working on a switchable graphics laptop, or work around the flaws in Window/Game that I have?

This is all I need fixed.

Your screenshot doesn't show any attempt to use monitor capture.
Maybe because that's not the problem I'm trying to show. Don't you get ten complaints a day about Monitor Capture giving a blank screen due to switchable graphics? They're always met with "just use window capture idiot". This is me using Window Capture. Actually look at the picture. LOOK, with your EYES. There is a popup window of "Sprite Editor" not shown on the stream. Additionally, the top bar of the window shows Chrome tabs for some odd reason.

R1CH is going out of his way to try to help you, least you could do is show him a little respect.

So you're trying to use game capture on a non-game and it isn't working, and window capture only captures a single window as intended. Show what happens when you try to use monitor capture. If it's a black screen then follow the instructions to switch which GPU OBS runs on and try again.

You cannot tell me this person is "going out of his way" if he won't read anything I say and assumes I've done bugger all to solve this on my own.

Please, PLEASE read these carefully, I'm begging you.

I get a black screen when using Monitor Capture. It is literally the same case as with everyone else who comes whining here about it. Switchable graphics laptop.

I have tried switching which GPU OBS runs on. It does not work. In fact, I specifically recall another thread saying it only uses the first one, and does not work when you switch it.

I am not using Game Capture on a non-game. I am using it on Game Maker Studio's test runner. It works, however the dimensions are a bit weird in some cases and the mouse position is incorrect.

...okay, I guess I have an update to make. I was going to prove another thing, but, er... now I'm confused. I went into NVIDIA and changed obs.exe to run on integrated graphics. (When I said I tried switching what it runs on, I meant in the Settings, I changed the Video Adapter) It now picks up Monitor Capture perfectly, even showing games that should be using my GeForce card. Does this mean that my games are all running off of my integrated graphics?! I have my globally preferred graphics processor set to my GeForce... am I really using integrated now?!?!

Okay, being in this mode causes Game Capture to stop working altogether. I guess I'm fine...?

I got an email saying there was a reply, but I don't see it.

They asked where I was switching what GPU OBS was on.

I tried the Video Adapter in the OBS video settings first, that is what didn't work.

Changing it in the NVIDIA settings is what ended up working, and now I'm worried everything runs off integrated now.

Everything relays through the intel integrated card on a switchtable graphics laptop. The bulk of the heavy lifting for games will go through the nvidia.

So, even if I have it set globally to use the GeForce, it still runs through the integrated?

Like, it's rendered through NVIDIA first then displayed on the Intel, and the monitor displays that?

If that's the case, then that makes sense and I am relieved. This is the first time I've had a computer with a competent graphics card, so I'm always a bit worried.

Switchable graphics laptops are actually a royal pain in the ass because of stuff like this, but yes, the rendering is usually handled by the nvidia and then fed to the intel for display on switchable graphics (unless your settings are set to prefer the intel for the specific program).

So how people can actually stream games on dualGPU laptops, while running some window capture on top of it or stuff like the CLR browser plugin?
P.S. the game should run on the dedicated GPU, always.

If you run OBS on your gaming GPU, it should work fine if you add Window Capture to the scene along with the Game Capture, then use Edit Scene to move the two around. If Window Capture is blackscreening on you, try setting Compatibility Mode on the Window Capture source and it should work as intended.
