Question / Help i need help with .625b stable...

i have been using obs for a little while with streaming and recording my standard definition capture card. and for the most part the updates have been handy and stable.... but the newest update (.625b), has my nerves shaken up since now i cant stream. i used to have lossless framerates and now i cant do anything... i have reinstalled a fresh obs (both 64 and 32 bit), reinstalled the capture card driver, i have even tried using razer game booster to get back my performance. i have no idea what to do. but if needed i can make a digital disc copy and send it to a moderator or developer to see if they can get this fixed. i really do not want to downgrade my obs

Thanks in advance,

and i know my equipment is very very very far from anything that would count as good, but as i said before the problem only came within this last update

That log is from 0.622b, and shows that your APU is struggling to encode at 480p. That APU is absurdly underpowered, and I seriously doubt that you were actually able to record well with it at any point. You can try downscaling to 360p and changing your x264 preset to ultrafast, and your fps to 25.

Are you sure it's not an issue with overheating or something? Your log shows that your CPU simply cannot keep up with the encoding, being late on 78% or frames and taking, on average, 33ms to encode each frame, which is really high. Are you sure you're using the same settings as before? You said you tried downgrading after upgrading and the issue persists, which seems to indicate that it isn't an issue with this release of OBS, but something else.

It has been since the x264 update when this began. OBS changlog states that the x264 was upgraded. I am wondering if the x264 update from windows update caused a conflict with the OBS update.

I am having the same problem right now running on an AMD A8 at 5.2 GHz with the graphics overclocked to 900Mhz with everything nice and cool at 32 degrees celsius, 8Gb ram.

But all of this began when windows updated the media codecs on windows 8/8.1. On my ThinkPad t420 I can stream decently.

The laptop is running windows 7.

This seems to be a windows 8 issue with an update that turbo and I have gotten.

Both systems are at 1600 x 1280 at the moment.

I sincerely doubt that the x264 upgrade affected performance like this, and if that was the case, then downgrading to an earlier version of OBS would fix it.

it actually did work but i had to downgrade it all the way to .59b which was the last time that obs updated the x264. sooooo... problem solved :) thanks linkduino for the info

Your Welcome

And the problem does actually stem from the directshow codec which is a partial backbone of x264.
I did a test by downgrading the directshow codec in a Windows 8 VM after the latest update, and that also solved the problem. But because windows update is persistent, It will just update them again on the next session.

Then you have to go dig around in SysWow64 and many keys in the registry to downgrade it again.

This may be fixed in on 0.63b test 1, could you try it out?

i have xsplits x264 dll file. is there a difference in the files that obs uses and the files that xsplit uses... id like to stick with obs because it has always been good to me... is there a way to integrate the different file into obs without conflicts?
