Question / Help I get horrible performance - but for OLD games.

My computer is barely powerful enough to stream but my framerate is just fine with a game like Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory (2007), Starcraft 2 (2013), SimCity 4 (2003), Fallout: New Vegas (2010) or S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl (2007).

But there are some ancient games that kill my framerate. For example, Half-Life 1 or any Goldsource engine game. And last night I tried Wing Commander IV: The Price of Freedom. They both play at 1-2 FPS when capturing with OBS. WCIV didn't capture with Game Capture mode although it is a DirectX game AFAIK, or Window mode - I had to use Monitor Capture. Goldsource games do work with Game Capture mode.

Game capture is for use with DirectX 9/10/11 and OpenGL games only. WC4 is a DirectX 5 game so that's probably not going to work. Make sure your GoldSrc games are set to run in OpenGL and not Direct3D.

So why is the performance so horrible on these games that require like no system resources

Because gamecapture utilizing DirectX9/10/11 etc. Rather than utilizing hooks for Dx5/6/7/ Direct3d, etc. This means old renderers aren't properly supported. I would assume that this means that hooks this way, are ineffecient, and therefore waste many of the frames.

This is only an assumption.

If you're on Windows 7 and capturing with Monitor capture with Aero enabled (or really, Monitor capture at all) then you're going to have a bad time.
