Question / Help How do I make sure to not fry my GPU / System?

Ok, I'm totally new to recording my gameplay, or even having a system that can run current games, so I've had a lot of other noob questions... but they seem to have already been asked an answered by the great community here on the forums. So I'll ask this one instead: (it's been a niggling worry of mine)

What precautions should I take to make sure I don't fry any components while recording 1080p @ 60fps?
can anyone recommend some good, -free- system monitoring software?

Sys specs are:
Eurocom Panther P5 (laptop, which is why I'm worried about my temps)
Intel c600/x79 chipset
8c 2.6 GHz v2/Xeon E5-2650 Processor
Nividia GeForce GTX 880m GPU
16gb Ram
3TB Storage

I want to get the highest video capture quality I can without anything melting, any advice is appreciated thanks!
(sorry if this is the wrong place to ask)

Also: Is 1080p / 60fps even worth recording for YouTube uploads, or should I cut my upload times with 720p / 30fps?

Thanks again!
-A total noob

For prerecorded videos (rather than live) I'd suggest to go as high a resolution and framerate as your system will allow.

That xeon should be capable of keeping up.
