Question / Help High CPU Usage While Streaming

First off, I am new to streaming and have only used OBS for streaming purposes. I will give a brief rundown of my setup and a brief description of the issues I am having to see if the problem is caused by my rig or by my settings.

Note: What I streamed tonight is Amnesia: The Dark Descent on the LOWEST settings and still encountered about 5-10 crashes over the course of 4-5 hours. I also would like to stream StarCraft 2 and the like. Any input is appreciated. Thanks for looking!

I noticed even on the lowest settings for Amnesia and my stream being set to 15fps, 1000kb/s and having 'decent' hardware My CPU usage was still around 90-100% almost the entire time and while my frame rate was "OKAY" it wasn't nearly where I would like it to be.

Your CPU and GPU combination is somewhat underpowered for HD streaming, so it's not entirely surprising that it's trying to use so much CPU.

Monitor your CPU temps as well; you may be overheating and causing those crashes. As noted by Jim, your CPU/GPU are quite weak to be streaming at 720p, and 1000kbps is not going to provide very good image quality at all.

Have you considered a further downscale to 480p, and see if CPU utilization falls to more acceptable levels? Real-time video encoding is an EXTREMELY CPU-intensive task after all.

I have downscaled my output to 480p on both my webcam and game, which has dropped the load on my CPU to about 60-70% whilst streaming. I am trying to stream Amnesia The Dark Descent and havedropped all of my game settings down to the lowest, in addition to that I set the game window's resolution to 1280x720 (to maintain the 16:9 ratio while decreasing the load on my CPU/GPU. While I WAS able to bump both my webcam and game capture to 30fps, I had issues with a constant black flicker across my entire 'game capture' window. Another issue I had was incessant crashes. I believe they are due to my video drivers, but I never had any issues with crashing prior to streaming.

I don't know if I am being overly-descriptive, but I wanted to be as thorough as possible. Also, here are my three most recent stream logs.

One last question; If I was to upgrade my GPU, would that lessen the load on my CPU?

Did you perform a full uninstall of the video drivers before installing the new ones? ATi/AMD drivers tend to need this, to maintain stability... installing new over the old usually results in Bad Stuff Happening.
It also appears that OBS is grabbing your Radeon 4800... you'll probably want to switch that over to the 7660.

No, upgrading your GPU will not in any way lighten the load on your CPU.
APUs are notoriously underpowered. That'd be what I'd go for as far as a first upgrade, if it was my system.

I just now noticed this post. I have reinstalled my GFX drivers. Incidentally the drivers I am now using are older than what I was having problems with. I have adjusted a few settings and am able to stream Amnesia (I am now using this as a reference) with 30fps webcam and it is, (knock on wood) stable.

While I will continually try to better the quality of my stream, it seems I've pretty much reached the max for my current hardware.

Long story short, it's looking like I've finally been able to get my stream going with your help. Thank you both VERY much for taking the time to help out a new guy. :P
