Question / Help High CPU Usage While Streaming at 60fps?

Hello,

I'm using an awesome PC to stream and wanted to test if I could stream at 60fps with my current setup. My specs are as follows: Intel i7 3770k @ 3.5GHz, 32GB DDR3-1600 RAM, No GPU, 3TB HDD, etc. My bitrate is at 2500kbps and my upload speed is 5.5mbps so that can't be it. While previewing, I had a 100% CPU usage. I stream using external Elgato from my Xbox so I don't think I'd need a CPU. Can anyone tell me what's going on?

Thanks

OBS must encode your elgato output so there is why your CPU is under load. capturing is not that hard its maybe 1% of your CPU if you streamed PC games. but encoding is that hard part on CPU. and your elgato is doing only that capturing part

Hello,

Thanks for the response. So is there a fix to this issue? I know the Elgato is capable of 60fps and I've seen other streamers with the Elgato stream at 60fps? Not sure what to do so I may need help fixing the problem.

Thanks again

Also, your PC has to decode the data coming from the elgato, then encode it again, adding more cpu usage.

a gpu helps with decoding and encoding alot , even if its not stated a card would help you
also make sure your cpu is running at the correct speed and freq and multiplier
