So at this point i'm nearly pulling out my hair since i can't find an answer to my question and i really hope someone will be able to help, i'll try to explain as best as i can so bear with me.
I want to be able to play music on my stream and also be able to talk with the chat but i'm finding that the music comes out on the stream alright if i don't have the headset mic activated but when the mic is activated you can't hear the music (sounds like the mic picks it up from the headphones).
I have a Cosair Raptor HS40 headset (USB 2.0), an HP webcam 2300 and 2 external speakers that i connect through the green jack at the back of the PC.

Another problem i was having was that when i listened to the mic through a recording there was like a pulsing feedback but when i went to the sound options and disabled the mic on the headset and then enabled it again the pulsing stopped.

I really hope that someone can help and please feel free to ask me questions, i can provide screenshots and logs of anything you want i just want to get it fixed!

I don't suppose you've tried turning down/turning off the external speakers to see if that makes a difference?

You're recording your mic twice, once as a normal recording device under Settings > Audio and also as the recording device for your webcam. Open the webcam source's properties window in OBS and set its audio device to None.

Ok so the mic sound seems to be working ok but now i want to have the music playing in the background and be able to talk over the top of it but when i set the music going and start talking, you can hear me ok but you can't hear any music and the volume indicator on OBS doesn't have any sound registering on it, thanks for the help on the first bit i hope we can sort this bit out and i'll be sorted.

::EDIT:: Just to say i am in settings - audio and then desktop audio device is set to Digital Audio (S/PDIF) (High Definition Audio Device).

The other options in the drop down menu are as follows:]

Default
speakers (high definition audio device)
Headphones (raptor hs40)
Samsung-3 (NVIDIA high definition audio)
Digital audio (S/PDIF) (high definition audio device)
24W_LCD_TV-0 (2-NVIDIA high definition audio)
Digital Audio (S/PDIF) (high definition audio device)

Just a note though when i put it on anything apart from Digital audio (S/PDIF) (high definition audio device) OBS will bring up an error message saying: Cannot initialize desktop audio sound, more info in the log file which is here https://gist.github.com/dcff3b86bea68e2321cb

From that description it sounds like the desktop audio volume is being lowered/muted when your mic is in use? Go to Control Panel > Sound > Communications and make sure the option there is set to "Do nothing".

tried it and it still doesn't wantto work, i could've sworn it worked once but i can't be sure, it could just be a setting that i'm not enabling or something like that, i tried to take a screenshot of my OBS settings although because i have duel monitors it takes a shot of both of them and when i cut and paste an image it just goes small :(
