Question / Help Help on my lag while recording video

I record videos while I play games like League of Legends etc.

Whenever there are a lot going on (i.e. characters use skills rapidly) my computer lags and when I see OBS, it says with red writing that I have frame rate issue and recording freezes about 1 min.

I hate this when I record and have to edit it everytime to jump to after lag scene.

This happened after couple of OBS updates ago and tried to fix this issue since then and looked at some feeds but didn't help at all.

any ideas how i can fix this?.

Currently my OBS settings are:
32-bit OBS
Encoder x264
Use CBR
Quality Balance 5
NO Enable CBR padding
NO Custome buffer Size
Max Bitrate 1000
Base resolution: 1920:1080 Aspect ratio 16:9

I have this on log after analysis:
"Bad resolution / FPS / bitrate combination

The combination of settings you are using will likely lead to a low quality stream with artifacting and other problems. Consider either raising your bitrate or lowering your resolution / FPS (qval: 0.008)

1 issues found (1 major, 0 minor)."

My computer specs are:
Windows 7 x64 bit
AMD Athlone II x4 630 2.8GHz
4GB (DDR3-1 x2) Ram
AMD RAdeon HD 5700 Series
I use resolution monitor of 1920 x 1080*.

*I currently use dual montior with 23" and 15" one for recording purpose.

1920x1080 at 1000kbps isn't going to work. You need at least 3000kbps for that, and even then it's going to take a lot of computing power to make that work at that low of a bitrate. You're only recording locally, so pump that to 30000kbps. It'll eat disk space, but it will let you run a faster x264 encoding preset (superfast or ultrafast) without looking TOO terrible.

Your CPU is on the weak side, as well.

Hi there,

My understanding was the lower kbps the less laggier. So higher the better right?. so 3000kpbs or 30000 kpbs?.
Also my x264 encoding preset on "very fast" (which was preferred by default). So it is recommended to be at superfast or ultrafast?.

Unfortunately I cannot do anything to CPU :(, unless I change it in future =).

Thanks

You can also try to downscale your stream output so your CPU has less heavy load.
For example try to stream at 720p and you'll see your cpu usage go down.

And like the persons above me said: You can go as high as you need with your bitrate, bacause you are recording locally.
I personally record locally at 10000 kbit/sec.

How do you change options for changing 720p from 1080p in OBS ?.

I just tried recording League of Legends at 30,000 kpbs and 36 min video makes it 7.7 GB LOL...

But no lag at all fortunately.

Thanks again people, appreciated !.
