I've ran logs after logs through analyzer, didn't have this issue for first month I had my computer now all the time. only time I can seem to make it work but it still happens is when I switch to the NVidia setting. I should be able to run top settings with the computer I have here is a link of my log

does the elgato cause this type of issue? my computer is running at 15-20% cpu when this error occurs. I know people with lesser rigs that use same setup no issues, I unstalled and reinstalled windows and obs, I tested my hard drive. I need help isolating an issue before I send my computer back for a complete rebuild to ibuypower

Can't say if the problem is the Elgato itself, but there's a VERY easy way to check.

Open a game of some kind (even TF2, DoTA 2, LoL, etc which are free can be used, but I suggest a bit more demanding game like Blacklight Retribution) and simply attempt to game capture the game and stream. If you encounter the high encoding using x264, then the problem lies somewhere on that system, even if it's temperatures. If the problem does NOT occur but will occur when using the elgato, it has something to do with the Elgato.

Troubleshooting and process of elimination is the best way to find out what's wrong. Reinstalling your OS is not.

I currently run elgato as a device capture just the same as I run my camera. I did run window capture of elgato and no issues. I will have to download a game as I already reinstalled my whole OS and drivers.

The weird thing is for the first couple months I had my computer I didn't have this issue I could run at x264 etc now I have to nvidia and scale down video.

But I will test with a different game capture and see how it goes, thanks.

I downloaded a few games and tested them through OBS, and still got the high encoding error. So im guessing since I reinstalled OS I must have some sort of driver issue. I tested my hard drive and that came back clean (but they said there can be false positives). I tested CPU that came back ok. Can the fact I use wireless USB lead to high encoding? I'm guessing not as I didn't have this encoding issue the first month or so I had my computer it just started happening one day and never stopped.

any feed back is great, I don't think I should have encoding issues with my current computer setup

Might actually be that the elgato firmware updated or something.

Can you try using OBS multiplatform and see if it happens with x264? The build should be very good with capture cards. If no problems exist, let us know if you're good. If problems do exist, then it likely somehow lies somewhere else on the PC.

I reduced the webcam after those earlier logs to 640x480

I've tried another steam game without OBS and still got the high encoding at the 264 setting.

The only way I rarely (but still) get encoding is using nvidia and 1280x720 no scaling down.

So it's not the elgato as it happened for a normal game on computer as well, I'm guessing maybe i have a corrupt hard drive as i didn't have this issue when i first got my computer. I was able to run at 264 with top end settings

i7 4790
16gb ram
nvidida 970
200 solid
1000 other
4.0 ghz

My hard drive and CPU tests came back clean, I guess I'm just going to have to send the computer back to ibuypower or have them send me a new hard drive because I can't figure out a problem within obs and i shouldn't have to dumb down settings that much on my computer
