Question / Help Having problems with my stream: video quality, audio and sync issues

I've just bought a new PC to stream on and it is producing a lower video quality than the VMWARE Windows boot on my MacBook Pro with exactly the same settings within OBS. I also am using ethernet rather than wi-fi to improve the upload speed. What do I need to do? e.g. upload log file, change settings etc.

PC is AMD A10-7800 Radeon R7, 12 Compute Cores C+8G 3.50GHz 16.0GB RAM, 64-bit OS.

My upload speed is (only) 8.9Mbps / 1.1MB/s

I am using a condensor microphone through an M-Audio M-Track for sound, and linking it through the webcam (audio input device). The audio is only coming through on the left channel even though I have force microphone/aux to mono in the Audio settings. As I am using the audio input device in the webcam, I have disabled the audio in the audio settings so I wonder if the force mic to mono actually has any effect at all. What should I do to resolve this issue?

Finally, there is a delay between webcam and audio and also with on-screen, i.e. i click the mouse on screen and the sound comes a few moments later. What should I do?

I look forward to hearing from you, have had excellent success with the software through VMWARE on my MacBook Pro so really hoping the machine and audio interface aren't to blame.

Bump. Any thoughts? I have fixed the audio issues, but the quality of the picture is still pretty poor and much worse than when I ran on VMWARE with my Mac. Will getting a better graphics card help at all, or is it just the low upload speed that's affecting things?

normally as higher you set the bitrate as better the quality, and with the audio issue i have the same thing that my headset audio isnt sync with the game for some reason but i didnt find a way to fix it yet, i have a delay from about 1 second

I tried recording the stream locally and the quality is really bad too, so it feels like something is going on at my computer before it even uploads to the stream. Could that be possible? To fix the audio I checked "Force desktop audio to use video timestamps" in the Advanced tab of Settings.

if you use x264 and u turn of CBR you should be able to change the quality

Ok yeah I can change the quality - I'm guessing 10 is the highest/best? What effect will this have on my stream? It's warning me that the settings are not optimised for Twitch now as I'm not using CBR.

CBR is short for constant bitrate you CAN use it but you don't need to, it shows that message cause CBR is optimal for twitch but as long as you dont have problems with it its fine

OK that's great, thank you for your help. Should I also use Custom Buffer Size and enter Max Bitrate and Buffer Size as suggested by the OBS estimator?

Please post a log file from a live streaming session at least 5 minutes in length so we can see what is going on, on the back end. Otherwise it is just flailing in the dark. CBR is necessary for streaming to Twitch; unless you're only recording locally or streaming to another service, do NOT turn it off. Do not use a custom buffer size.

Without having seen the log, all I can advise is that AMD APUs are notoriously anemic, to put it politely, and will not work as well as a dedicated CPU and discrete GPU. You also have a very low upstream rate, and should look into upgrading your network connection; 1mbps means you will be able to use about 650kbps at most, which might be enough for a 320p stream (unless you're playing something ultra low-motion like Hearthstone, then might be able to get away with 480p). Be aware that audio bitrate is NOT included in the encoding settings and needs to be handled separately. So if you're using 600kbps encoding and AAC 128kbps audio, you're actually using 728kbps and may exceed your connection's minimum throughput more easily.

Set the webcam's Audio Input Device to Disable. That's meant for things like capture cards, so you can get the game audio. You're running your mic through the Microphone channel (including set device to mono). You can set a delay in the Settings to make it match up against your webcam's video. Setting the mic as the webcam audio device will NOT automatically sync them, and will just lead to duplicated/echo-y audio as it's grabbing the same audio twice (once from the webcam's input node, and once from the Microphone channel, where it should be coming from).

As far as game audio desync, I'd recommend holding off on trying to fix that until the rest of your setup is sorted. It may be caused by one of the other issues it sounds like are present, but there are ways to correct it, too, if it persists afterward. Again, please post a logfile from a live session from the Help menu (post the link here) and we'll be able to advise and troubleshoot further.

I have found out I can upgrade my broadband to provide up to 20Mb upload (around 2.2Mb/s) - will this be enough to stream decent quality (either 720p or even 1080p) poker (very low action so low FPS) with webcam?

Also, is my graphics card (AMD Radeon R5 235) causing the low-quality/blurry/fuzzy picture or is it more likely to be my upload speed? I am happy to put in a dedicated graphics card if it will definitely improve the quality.

Higher bitrate is about all you're going to be able to do, and in order to do that, you're going to need a better internet connection

OK so I got a better internet connection that can now upload 2124 kB/s (I think that's the fastest in the UK, although don't quote me on that). I changed the max bitrate to that level and tested the stream. It was still fuzzy/blurry - not impressed at all. So then I just tried removing the resolution downscale to run at 1080 even though obs estimator suggests I can run at 480p/720p... and VOILA, really crisp stream.

So is it my graphics card that is just crap at downscaling? None of the other settings were changed.
