Question / Help Have second PC NEED ADVICE

Hello there, I am wanting to stream full time.. My gaming rig is pretty solid but still has a hard time playing games well whilst streaming. I was given an older pc that has the following specs ...

P5N-D Motherboard
GTX-460 SuperClocked
q6600-quad oc to 3.4ghz
4gigs shitty ram

Anyway, my question is this... is it worth it to get a capture card for this setup and link the two computers having this older one do the encoding or is it to weak? My main pc is

I5-3570k @ 4.8ghz water cooled
3x gtx 660ti's 2 in sli 1 standalone
16gigs vengeance

I would still rather take the pressure off my cpu if I could put it on another... etc.

Any advice is appreciated... if I were to get a capture card to link them... what would be the best I could throw in that older system? Since it doesn't have usb 3.0 etc... thanks.

Hi there, thanks for the response!

I have not tried that and am unaware of what it is, I will be researching! Thanks for the link, will check that out as well. I am assuming I am going to have to use an internal capture card on the second pc since that setup doesn't have usb 3.0 right? What card would you recommend internally? Thanks again!

Okay, that's cool... I might look into that. However, the question posed was is that pc good enough for a decent capture card and if so what would be the recommended capture card for it? From what I've heard thus far is that a capture card will make a significant difference regardless, especially on streaming pcs that might now be on the higher end. I am trying to see if that is true... so.

Is that pc strong enough for a decent capture card?
If so, what capture card would work best with that setup?
Could I achieve the same quality without a capture card as with or no? If not, or if it is unlikely I would rather just figure out what capture card would go best with it.

Thanks.

A Q6600 might be able to do 720p veryfast, I am not sure about 1080 though. That is using a CaptureCard as the Input as you plan to. But the PC will be at its limit with that :)

In your case I would definitely recommend an internal capture card, probably an avermedia to get the least problems.
Avermedia Live Gamer HD (lite) or Avermedia Game Broadcaster HD
both allow inputs up to 1080p60 (recording at 30fps though) and are available in a normal price range. To get 1080p60fps input (which would probably be too much for your 2nd PC anyway) you would have to invest double the money into an x-capture 1 or maybe an avermedia extremcap u3 or whats it called. I personally use the Game Broadcaster HD which I am very happy with and a many people use the Live Gamer HD without big problems :)

I also made a post about Capture Cards on my THS page if you want to check that out:

(can of course also be found on the forum here http://obsproject.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=5654)

As the others mentioned, you can try the 2PC without Capture Card setup right now, without investing money I guess. So try that before going all out and buying one =)

Most people don't use that CPU any more, so I don't know how it'll work. That's why I recommend you try it out using that guide before buying a capture card.

Thank you very much for your reply! I will look into those cards. The cap uses usb 3.0 I think, doesn't it? That motherboard only has 2.0 so I don't know about that... I am going to look into that x-capture 1 and the rest.
