Question / Help Great computer, lagging stream. Help?

When I tried to stream, there was a minute of lag with audio and my face was constantly frozen. I've never done any kind of stream before so if I'm making a mistake, tell me and I'll learn.

These are my system settings. I used the estimator and read the forum and I still don't understand what I did wrong. What should my settings be? (I'm going to probably give more information than is needed)

OS: Windows-8.1/ 64 bit
Processor: Intel i7-4500U @ 1.80 GHz 2.40 GHz
Ram: 8GB
Graphics Card: Nvidia Geforce 740M
Down Speed: 18.97 Mbps
Up Speed: 1.99 Mbps
Screen Res: 1366 x 768
I was trying to stream singleplayer Minecraft.
All non-essential programs were closed, processes ended.
My computer's name is Tucker. GOD DAMN IT, TUCKER.

What should my settings be?

Just kidding, found it.

here's the log: I edited all these settings before streaming though.

Multiple video cards detected

If you are having problems and are using a laptop, see this thread for advice.

If you are using SLI or Crossfire, you may need to disable it for compatibility with OBS.

Skipped frames detected

The video encoder is unable to encode your frames in realtime, causing skipped frames. This is often caused by running at too high of a resolution / FPS combination for your CPU. Try lowering your resolution and/or FPS. If you have changed the x264 preset, put it back to default (veryfast).

Wireless detected

You appear to be streaming over a wireless connection. While this can be OK, keep in mind that interference from other radio sources or obstacles can cause your connection to momentarily stall, resulting in dropped frames or disconnects. A wired connection is strongly recommended for a reliable stream.

Possible slow server

The server you are streaming to (rtmp://live-lax.justin.tv/app) took 777 ms to connect. This may mean your connection or the server is slow, or the server is far away from you. If you are using twitch.tv, you may want to try using JTVPing to find an optimal server.

VBR in use

Consider enabling CBR for improved stream quality. CBR will use a fixed bitrate which allows a smoother network stream, reducing the chances of frame drops for both you and your viewers.

Slower preset in use

You have changed the default preset to medium. Using slower presets can result in late frames and high CPU usage / low FPS. You should only change the preset if you are sure you have the CPU power to spare.

Late frames detected

13.45% of your frames are late. This means the frames are being generated later than they were needed, causing your stream FPS to drop. Late frames are often caused by slow sources such as monitor capture, slow video capture devices or by trying to run your stream at too high of a resolution / FPS.

If you are using a webcam, try to lower the resolution of it. If you are using monitor capture, try switching to game source or window capture. If you must use monitor capture, ensure Aero is disabled.

You can also try lowering the resolution or FPS of your stream if you have an older CPU.

See https://obsproject.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=11641 for more information on how to resolve this issue.

yes thats the right one

in the end you tried to stream on medium preset dont do it

since your screen is 1366x768 you dont have to really downscale you should be able to run your desktop resolution without having obs to downscale it.

but you have literally a shitton of late and duplicaded frames meaning something is blocking.

make sure that your nvidia gpu is chosen as video adapter and also make sure that you give obs the rights to "run as admin"

since you are on 2mbit upload i would suggest not going any higher than ~1250 bitrate

another thing is "javaw.exe" (thats most likely java runtime) obs is trying to capture something since you are on win8 you might try 3 different capture methods which all should be working fine monitor/window/game-capture

change your profile in advanced settings to main and change the keyframe interval to 2

Thank you. Another tutorial I was reading told me setting it on the medium preset would help fix the problem...frustration outruled common sense on that one.

I'll try your suggestions later tonight and let you know how it goes.

the slower the preset the more the taxing ond your cpu veryfast is the most balanced preset thats why its default most of the time faster and fast is manageable by actual desktop cpu's like an i7 4770k but everything below fast will start taxing really hard so your cpu is going to be maxed out at 100% by just encoding and you are not even playing. which means, since you went on medium your problem got even worse

edit* i reread the first topic and saw that you are playing and trying to stream minecraft which explains why java is running.
in this case try using window capture or monitor capture and see if that fixes anything

another test would be to delete the whole webcam source and try to stream without your webcam

I've fixed what you've recommended and also put a few settings back to default. Now, OBS will crash no matter what I'm doing- stream, webcam, no webcam, trying different games, etc. I tried recording a game called Victory At Sea to a file (not streaming) and OBS crashed in the preview. Everything else on my computer is running perfectly.

Here's the crash report and the dump. What the hell am I doing wrong?

OBS has encountered an unhandled exception and has terminated. If you are able to
reproduce this crash, please submit this crash report on the forums at
