Question / Help Gradual Game FPS Drop while streaming

I've only started streaming recently and before then, I was using OBS as a way of doing local recordings, as my upload at the time wasn't good enough. When I was using OBS for local recording at the very start, my FPS was perfectly fine, I didn't have any significant FPS drops to 30 or below. In my recent OBS local recordings though, the FPS started to gradually lower while playing League. At the start of the game, the FPS would be around 70-90 though towards the end of a 30 minute game, it would drop down to 40-50. If I played another game afterwards, the FPS would drop even further to a point where moving my view of map causes a lot of stuttering action. It's always dropping down to 15 FPS in teamfights, and this is not a problem when I play without OBS (Normally sticks around 70-90 FPS).

I don't know what to do, there are no threads that have similar problems like mine and it's either because of my settings or a change in OBS has caused this problem. It just doesn't make sense though, because I've taken note of one streamer who has the EXACT specs as my laptop and is able to stream perfectly fine.

You're on a laptop, and OBS is doing it s drawing on the intel instead of the nvidia. You really want it to use the nvidia instead of the intel.

You're also using monitor capture which has pretty horrible performance on windows 7. That's why we put all the warnings in there when activating it on windows 7 after all.

Should I install OBS on my SSD or the HDD? League is on the SSD and right now OBS is installed on the D drive... Where should it be or does it not affect performance?

Here's an update on the situation. I found out that I needed to select the GPU for OBS via Nvidia's Control Panel. Changed it so that it uses it... However, the FPS is even worse now. It's at like 40-50 for a while then suddenly, it drops to 15 FPS. Makes the gameplay extremely shaky and there is a huge delay... I don't know what else to do now. I even set my resolution downscale to 1.75 when I know that this laptop should be capable of even 1080p. But yeah, this is the log for the recent streaming session like an hour ago.

Please do not say that monitor capture is inefficient and that I should do game capture - I can't seem to do that for League of Legends, hence why almost every streamer out there uses monitor capture with no issues for hours on end. If anyone has any ideas from this log, it'd be great if you could share them with me because I'm somewhat at a loss :(

P.S: There are no dropped frames at all, though when my FPS drops ingame, my OBS also seems to fall from the constant 30 FPS.

What happens when you take Monitor Capture out of your scene? I missed that when first looking at your logs, Monitor Capture really slows everything down on Vista/Win7

You should also re-enable Aero after getting rid of Monitor Capture.

Haven't tried it but does the max bitrate value affect the overall performance? I heard from a friend that it makes the CPU work harder if I put it down as a lower value. Right now it's 1000 and the buffer size is 1500.

Also I haven't tried to do it without Monitor Capture because I cannot seem to get a game capture of League of Legends. That's pretty much the only reason why I'm using Monitor Capture. Can you tell me how I can get a game capture of ingame League of Legends? It doesn't appear as an option for me when it's open.

Bitrate and network related things have nothing to do with performance. Seems you have your graphics device set to the nvidia in nvidia's control panel, which is good. If you're capturing LoL lobby window (not in-game), then use window capture with "compatibility mode' enabled. Game capture will only work for in-game. (If this has already been covered please forgive me)

I've managed to use Game Capture for League of Legends in-game. Gonna test it out and see if it gets any better. I'll come back to this soon enough.

I was using Game Capture, not Monitor Capture for this stream session and while it did give me higher FPS than other times I've streamed for a longer period of time, the FPS still wavered down to 40 and then eventually, there was a distinct lag where when I was scrolling across the screen with my mouse, it would stagger. This was due to the FPS going down to 40 and whenever I was in teamfights, the FPS would drop further and make it impossible to know what was happening in game.

Now, as I've stated before, the settings I use are the same as a different streamer, who has the EXACT same specs as my laptop, besides having a 3GB version of the 670M. I've been using a different monitor while streaming all this time... Does that strain the GPU as well? Because maybe my GPU cannot handle running League of Legends ingame as well as OBS... Any ideas guys? It would be great if I could just have stable FPS for a long streaming period rather than having to cut down my stream after every game. If I haven't got a chance to stream then please inform me because I'd rather I stopped before my laptop self-destructs. Thanks for reading and any feedback would be good.

Another thing I want to ask is if I should consider doing a system restore... Would that return the GPU to it's original state? I'm not sure.
