I am having the same issue, I have a i7-4970k on Gigabyte z97 MB with 8 gigs of 1600 ram and a WD black that is just for storing captures. I can record in 720p60fps with no problem and the video is smooth as can be, once I change it to 1080p with any bit rate I get terrible choppy videos. I have found no resolution and not many people seem to be having this issue. I have tried not only OBS but also the elgato capture software with the same results.

I think this may be a hardware issue as I have seen videos of others at 1080p60fps on an older i5 and they are super smooth. Can someone shed some light? Do I need to return mine under warranty?
