Going out of my mind

Hey guys.
Totally at a loss here. I'll try to make this as short as I can but detailed.

So I'm trying to set up a livestreaming setup with 3 cameras. Main front-on camera being a Canon 750D. 2 side angle cameras being android phone cameras.
I bought a HDMI to Usb 3.0 dongle (a dirt cheap one..see pic) and a brand new mini HDMI to Standard HDMi cable.
Got it to work just fine in Scene 1.

Had a bit of trouble getting the 2 android cameras going. Was using Irium over wifi. Looked crap and was a bit stuttery. So looked in to using them with the USB cable (in usb debugging mode). So tried DroidCam (using 2 instances via sandboxie). Got them both to work (in scenes 2 and 3), but they kept freezing after a few seconds. Very common fault with droidcam apparently. So I thought I would try one last app and gave IVCam a go. Go it working great even with 2 instances of IVcam. So I had all 3 doing exactly what I wanted. It was late by this point (1am). So I went to bed and was going to have a crack at it today.

First thing I did after turning the PC on was delete Irium and DroidCam as they didn't work well and wasn't going to use them anyway.

After that I fired OBS up and now I can't get the Canon to work with OBS at all.

After adding the Video Capture device to Scene 1 and choose the HDMI to USB dongle (USB Video), all I get for a picture is Test Pattern (also see attached pics).

I uninstalled and then re-installed OBS. Same thing. Uninstalled and re-installed the dongle. Still nothing. Adroid phones still work great through IVCam. Just can't get any picture at all with the canon.

Any thoughts on what this could be??
By removing Irium and droidcam has it somehow deleted something needed for the canon to work??
Is this test pattern a sign that the dongle is cactus (I paid like $20 for it)?? Doubt it is the HDMI lead. Its a gold plated brand new lead.

I even installed OBS on a second laptop. Same thing happened. Just test pattern from the Canon. So I'm thinking it can't be the laptop.

I only bought the cheap dongle as I have been out of work for the last 10weeks due to covid, and don't have the cash to spend hundreds on one.

Here is a URL to the logfile:

Haven't set up any audio. Was only recording video and changing scenes to show the issue.

Any advice would be truly appreciated. I'm pretty damn close to just forgetting about the entire thing and not bothering with trying to live stream at all

Cheers guys

most likely driver/usb or dongle related the things you could try is limited.

however if your camera have a USB port you may be interested to checkout canons "EOS WEBCAM UTILITY" which transfer video through the usb cable no dongle / capture card required. Your device is not listed but it is an Eos model so its worth a try.
Only downsideis that it does not stream in full resolution (cutdown quality)

Things to try
1. Change usb port
2. Change between USB ports of different versions (as example from 3.x to 2.x)
3. go to "C:\Windows\Prefetch" delete everything in this folder and restart your computer (This is "quickstart" files generated by windows which if corrupter can prevent you from loading the software properly)

4.Device manage > Dongle (probably under Display adapter / Imagine Devices)> uninstall device

5.Download "USBDeview" locate any trace of the "dongle" Right click > uninstall selected device (This is not the same as device manager, it helps to fix USB related issues)

Device is based on Macro Silicon MS2109 chip. (like here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4SXJMNywL4)
It is USB2.0 device, max output is 30fps at 1920x1080p (MJPEG codec).
Delay about 100..200ms.

The color bars goes from the USB-dongle device when it is busy (no input). So, the USB to OBS part works OK.
At least try other source of the HDMI signal (maybe at lower FPS) or try other cable.

Hey mate. Thanks for the reply.
Tried what you suggested in terms of the usb component.

Thanks for the rwply mate. Pretty sure it's usb 3.0
This is a link to the actual item I bought.

Thanks for the reply mate. Tried all the things you suggested in terms of the usb. No luck. Still test pattern.
Installed eos webcam utility.
Works fine. Although definitely lower quality.
Guess I'll have to wait until this other capture device arrives so I can test it out again at Full HD.

Just a sanity-check, have you plugged the Canon's HDMI output into a TV or monitor to make sure it's actually outputting an HDMI signal? I've seen weird stuff like that happen, and since you're getting color bars from the USB device, the USB transport is confirmed-good. Checking that the camera is sending a signal at all is next-up in my book, and easy to overlook.
I've been bitten by that myself in the past.

Also, that's definitely a USB 2.0 device with some 'creative marketing'. Per the 'features' on that listing:
Support output max resolution 1920×1080@30Hz.
That's the USB 2.0 bandwidth limit kicking in right there. It might accept a 4K signal source, but it's going to downscale and output 1080p30 at absolute most, because that's the max a USB 2.0 connection has the bandwidth to support. Even if they put a blue connector on it.

Ok guys.
So...... Took ferretbombs advice and checked the camera on my tv. Nothing showed up. So my fear was that the hdmi out on the camera was cactus.
Went to my local elctronics store to buy another lead. They didn't have one so just bought a mini hdmi adapter fo a standard hdmi cable and BOOM!!! It works!!!!
For the life of me I didn't think it would be the cable as it was brand new. Took it out of the package, connected it, and then didn't touch ot again. So I thought there was no way the lead could have been damaged since it was working before.
Also, pretty sneaky marketing for sure. But I guess that's why it is a $17 dongle instead of something like a cam link which is $200!
Thanks for the advice guys.
You'll probably see my name annoying you in other posts when I can't seem to get anything to work again :-D
