Question / Help getting a black screen when trying to capture screen

getting a black screen when trying to capture screen, i looked up the faq's and searched other forums i followed the instructions to the tee and yet i still get this stupid black screen. if i were to use my webcam though it would work its just when i try to capture something on the screen my video card drivers are up to date as well as the obs software. please help.

Software capture, window capture, or Monitor capture?
What are you trying to tell it to look at?
Do you have an SLI configuration?
Do you have multiple Monitors?
