Question / Help Gaming Monitor Freezes w/ Dual PC Setup

so i'm trying to stream with two PC's but when i plug in my capture card (input slot) from my streaming PC into my gaming PC's video card HDMI slots OR display ports my gaming PC's monitor just freezes? all the icons on my desktop disappear, my cursor, etc. all i see is the my desktop and can't perform any actions. i'm using a ZOTAC GTX 980 in my gaming PC, which has 1 HDMI slot and 3 display ports and the monitor freezes when i try to use any of them. also, my capture card IS working in my streaming PC, i'm just having a problem actually getting my 2 PC's to work together.

your hdmi slot is probably trying to take over as your primary monitor. if you have your nVidia control panel running while its being plugged in, you can often fix this while it happening. either way, if you've followed the instructions from your cap card exactly, you should probably post on their site for issues. Once you get the picture to your cap card's software on the second PC, then you post here if you are having issues seeing it on OBS.
