Gameplay smooth, recording stuttering

My specs:

Windows 11

NVIDIA RTX 4070

32 GB RAM

i5 12600k

I use two SSDs, tried recording onto both, same result.

I get this problem with OBS and the new Steam Recording feature. NVIDIA's proprietary game capture software and Windows' game capture do not produce this problem.

With a setup like, I find it odd this happens. I tried lowering my recordings on 1080p (from 1440) and the problem persists in OBS and Steam Recording. I'm recording at 60 FPS, my monitor is set to a refresh rate of 59.95 (goes up to 144) and I'm wondering if that's affecting this.

I Googled, and Googled, and Googled and tried lots of suggestions, nothing is working.

I'm mainly trying to use OBS, but also want to correct this problem in Steam Recordings, as well. I did analyze my log in OBS, the only critical problems I had a few days ago where

  1. I needed to turn off GPU Acceleration. This actually seemed to solve this problem in NVIDIA'S recording software and Windows' game capture, But the problem persists in OBS and Steam Recordings.
  2. I was getting audio overload error. I turned off timestamps in OBS, which cleared the critical error, but the problem persists.
I thought I would post this here to see if anyone would have any new suggestions.

Here is the log showing the critical of max audio buffering.

Here is the log from my most recent session attempt:

My streamer friend was having a similar issue. Nothing worked until she tried deleting the scene she was using and creating a new one. The new scene fixed the problem.

For the record, she tried uninstalling and reinstalling OBS. She tried using an old version of OBS and a new pre-release beta version. None of that worked. Log files showed nothing worth mentioning to check.

The new scene worked.

From my searching, I've just taken it that this issue I'm having a very common problem with OBS that the developers are not interested in addressing, but are aware of it. So I cut OBS loose and uninstalled it. Windows capture utility, NVIDIA's capture utility, and Bandicam (which I might buy for a few reasons) do not give me these issues. Oh well, hopefully down the line OBS addresses this.

OBS wasn't your issue.

Your system was showing signs of overload as rendering lag is GPU overload. As far as the audio lag, you didn't fix the sample rate mismatches so that may be causing the audio lag or again system overload could be playing a part.

Info 0.3% Rendering Lag

Your GPU is maxed out and OBS can't render scenes fast enough. Running a game without vertical sync or a frame rate limiter will frequently cause performance issues with OBS because your GPU will be maxed out. OBS requires a little GPU to render your scene.

Enable Vsync or set a reasonable frame rate limit that your GPU can handle without hitting 100% usage.

If that's not enough you may also need to turn down some of the video quality options in the game. If you are experiencing issues in general while using OBS, your GPU may be overloaded for the settings you are trying to use.

Please check our guide for ideas why this may be happening, and steps you can take to correct it: GPU Overload Issues.

Any explanation why I don't have any issues with recording in the apps I mentioned? I can even record at 1440p with the maximum amount of characters on screen in those, with my textures quality and shadows quality set to high.

I don't use those other apps but I know how to get OBS to run correctly & it wasn't on your system due to overload.

I was using OBS for a very long time without any issues. I went a long time without recording any gameplay, but upon returning, this was an issue. Not sure if OBS just doesn't like certain GPUs, or system setups, but multiple programs completing the task with no issue while the only two that use the same programming (OBS and Steamlabs) presenting issues is a clear indication, on top of there being numerous reports reports on this forum and Reddit of this same exact issue, that never get resolved.

Anyway, I'm getting what I need to get done now without any issue, and OBS is uninstalled now so debating it is a moot point.
