Question / Help Game Capture Stutters. Window Capture doesnt. Why?

I've been having quite an annoying experience today. When I try to stream Dark Souls 3 with game capture the stream becomes a stuttering nightmare. When I play in windowed mode the stream runs just fine but my frame rate suffers. I'm completely at a loss. I can run the game just fine in fullscreen mode (720p 55-60fps) And I'd much rather stream that. How can I reduce the game capture lag??

You're downscaling to 480p, not 720p. Why is your framerate set to 25 instead of a more natural fraction of your monitor's refresh rate, like 20 or 30fps? Your monitor does run at 60Hz, not 50Hz, right?

What happens if you don't use your webcam? What resolution is your web cam set to?

You're still getting 12% duplicated frames when doing Window Capture, so the problem exists in both. And I don't see a game capture in the logs you posted.

Thank you for the response Boildown!

After I put one of the many logs into the log analyzer it suggested that I stream at lower a lower quality in order to reduce cpu usage thus the reason for the 480p and odd framerate. I captured some new footage at 720p 30fps using both game and window capture.

Also I don't stream with the webcam on. This webcam has a mic in it and I use that to speak. Removing it didnt improve anything.

Hopefully these logs are more accurate!

Yeah I see from the new logs that Window Capture is working better than Game Capture. Might be something new that DS3 is doing that game capture doesn't like. Try using Windows capture and setting the Process Priority Class lower in OBS, so that OBS uses less resources and leaves more available for the game. Settings > Advanced > General.

Ugh! I lowered the priority and streamed with window capture and it duplicated frames. So I set it back to High and now even High priority dupes frames. I'm completely at a loss at this point..
