So ill start streaming, all good and then ill tab out of the game. Now the image is stuck on when i tabbed out and the only way to get OBS to reload it is to reload the game.

However if I put the game into windowed mode and use window capture the issue doesn't exist. Only been happening since I re-installed windows, was fine before hand.

That's normal behavior for full screen games. When they aren't full screen, there is no point rendering, so OBS will show you the last rendered image.

Issue is, this continues even after I tab back into the game. The image stays the same once I continue gaming. Only way it continues to stream the game whilst I play once i'm tabbed back is only if in windowed mode and window capture.

I posted about this before and got an incorrect reply and then no other responses so I would like to try again.
(old topic: https://obsproject.com/forum/threads/game-capture-stops-working.14848/#post-81290)

So whilst I'm streaming I'll have the game in full screen mode and game capture then if I tab out AND come back in or do something that causes a drastic refresh of anything and OBS will just freeze at one frame. The audio of me playing the game is still there however.

This is a recent issue and the only way to fix it for me is to restart the game or run the game in windowed mode and use window capture.

Any ideas as to what might be causing this?

I have tried reinstalling, 32 and 64 bit versions, running as admin / not as admin and also backdating.

I really don't recommend streaming with full screen. Many have said that you shouldn't. You may have heard this a thousand times but you should use windowed or windowless. Just a recommendation :D

There is no real problem with fullscreen games, as long as they can be captured with game capture. R1ch is certainly correct that the game stops rendering while you Tab out. This could maybe lead to the problems you have.
You could do a test, run the game in window mode, use game capture of course, and tab out to obs and back to the game a few times. See if the gamecapture keeps working or still freezes again.
If everything is fine in window mode I would recommend to keep the game like that and use a tool to make it borderless! Alternatively, see if the Hotkey function of the OBS Game Capture works better than the Dropdown selection.
