Question / Help Freezing Video/Audio During Game Transitions

Hi,

Could you help me figure out how to solve this particular issue? I'm using Open Broadcaster to record footage of my Wii-U through the Elgato GameCapture HD hardware, but whenever there is a scene transition within the game, the game video and audio pause or freeze until the transition completes. The freezing starts at about the time the footage on my Gamepad hits the black screen. This happens irrespective of whether I am using .655b or OBS Studio 0.11.3/0.11.4. However it does not happen when I capture via the Game Capture HD software.

Here is a Youtube video showing the issue: https://youtu.be/kHIqAMDEzIQ

I've been having this EXACT problem, it's not -always- on transitions but it does seem to be really consistent on screen transitions. I'm also using an Elgato Game Capture HD, but I've seen the problem on systems besides the WiiU, but like chrisw10, it is -only- happening with OBS as far as I can tell (which is a shame since it's my favorite streaming software by far)! Testing it on the Game Capture software it doesn't have this problem at all. Also these skips don't appear to be related to internet connection/twitch servers themselves either, as these skips are also present in the local recordings. You can see a couple here from a stream the other day, when I start the stages/transition;

I've been doing my best to solve the problem over week or so, but I've come up with nothing which is why I signed up for OBS forums myself! Any support on this matter would be super appreciated!!

The issue is apparent in Xsplit as well.

Code, just curious, but are you running Windows 10? I am and am curious if that might be a commonality.

Yep I'm also running Windows 10, I do feel like I was dealing with this issue off and on before Windows 10 though. But it could be a factor, as it seems far more common as of late. But it might also be a byproduct of the systems I've been playing which seem more effected by this, WiiU and Nintendo 64 are particularly noticeable.

Code, try uninstalling the Gamecapture HD software and installing this version: http://files.elgato.com/thcdownloads/egc/GameCaptureSetup_1.42.24.msi

The video/audio freeze problem is not present using this version in OBS without any additional elements, although it's still present in Xsplit for me. I also still have the issue of OBS crashing on me when it tries to start rendering to h.264 when I use the Elgato in conjunction with my stream layout. But that's (perhaps?) a separate issue.

Awesome, good find! Thanks for the help chrisw10! It's working for me too from the few quick tests I've run!! Hopefully there's something that can be done on OBS so don't have to use old software/drivers for the elgato; but this is a really good fix for the time being!

I'm still working with Elgato's support so I'll update with anything else we find. I don't suppose there's a way for you to roll back to your previous operating system and try out the newest software and drivers there?

Just pointing out: If it works properly with an older version of the drivers, but breaks in the newer ones, and XSplit is affected too... this isn't a problem for OBS to fix. :b

Yeah, we know that now, Ferret. Prior to chrisw10's tests, everything I had done was with OBS/GameCapture because I didn't have Xsplit to test against. And the problem was only happening with OBS. But we know now!
