Question / Help Frame drops, advice

Currently I can stream at 480p. This isn't due to my upload speed or anything but no matter what game I play (except for games that are not resource intensive at all) and try to stream at 720p or even at 960x540 I get huge frame drops.

I think it may be due to my CPU which is an i5-2500k. Is there anything in the settings I could due to try to get as close to 720p as possible? Or am I stuck in a hole with this until I can upgrade my motherboard and cpu?

The estimator on the site here says I can stream at 720p but in reality I cant.

Post your logfile from the help menu. It really depends on what flavor of 720 are you talking about. 720@30, should work on most modern PCs but 720@60 is another story.

If you are local recording we have more options for you but streaming, again, another story.

I never try to stream with 60fps, I know for a fact my PC can't handle that so I always keep it at 30fps.

I'm thinking it is probably my CPU not being cooled off enough, the temp in my room/house stays around the 27c area and my CPU on load (not gaming load but shit ton of Chrome tabs, league, steam and various other programs) stays around 90c. Haven't checked the temp while gaming yet.

90c per core or is that the IHS temps? omg, 90c is an insane temp for a desktop CPU. Its probably your cooler or your paste or both. I would get that fixed unless you want to have to buy a new CPU sooner. This explains a lot.

Yeah, it's a pretty old CPU too. I've had it since 2012 but have kept it clean and dusted the fan etc every 6 weeks to 2 months. I'm about to open up my case and make sure the stock cooler is mounted correctly.

I'm planning on buying a new motherboard and CPU in the next month or 2 anyways (have to get a new mobo if I want a better CPU, stupid 1155 cpus).

you probably have a broken mount (those break easily) or a bubble in the heat-sync grease

After powering down and taking off the stock cooler and then putting it back on it seems my temps have gone down quite a bit. I'll let it run for an hour or two to see if they stay that far down, currently sitting at around 60c with the same programs running.

you really need to reapply some good quality grease every time you unmount your CPU heat-sync
