Question / Help FPS dropping from 120 to 20 in CS:GO when using OBS

Hey everyone,
I've seen a million people ask this question and I have tried pretty much all the recommend suggestions so I have decided to post my log file. Once I start doing a live stream my FPS in CS:GO is horrible, I maxed it out in CS to 120 but it could go much higher becuase I have AMD Radeon 6800 PRO. However it will go from 120 to 20 whenever I see another player, and its taxing my CPU so bad the game is unbearable to play. Can anyone help me analyze this file, I am not sure if it has something to do with the audio because it says it is behind. Any help would be appreciated, please check out my log file. Thanks guys :)

First off, don't stream at 3500kbps. Its unwatchable for a lot of people, and totally overkill for 720p25.

I would recommend 2000kbps upload.

As for the FPS drops, just a hunch, but try disabling your webcam.

Thanks for the quick response, I actually have changed from 3500 too 2500 still getting lag. You think I should go down from 720p? What would you suggest. And Im gonna try w/o the webcam but im hosting on twitch so people can see how silly I am when I play CS LOL

Thanks :)

problem with csgo is that your gpu dosnt mean shit ... almost literally

csgo runs on an cpu based engine so when you stream and play csgo your cpu has to decide whats more important.

your cpu isnt the best but since you went with superfast settings it should be okay when it comes to streaming if not downscale even more down to 540p with 30fps and maybe try the default preset(veryfast) and see what happens.

also another thing you can do is set the process priority of csgo to HIGH you can do this by opening steam then right clicking csgo properties and set -high into launch options

also keep monitoring your cpu usage while streaming because tbh your cpu is actually shit when it comes to streaming also those phenom x6 are known for underperforming since they are also quite old :/

webcams can also creat a lot of trouble with framedrops ingame for some odd reasons not for everyone just for some people

O btw, I turned way down from 720p, still no different, and I turned cam off, still bad lag. Im gonna give up soon LOL

Ok cool, didnt know that CSGO runs on the CPU and not on the GPU which is STUPID LOL. I actually also went into the task mananger, processes, and put CSGO to high priority and OBS is ABOVE NORMAL. Im gonna try this LOL

Don't put OBS on above normal, leave it at it's default. Setting CSGO to high is the best thing you can do. Another thing would be to change the X264 preset to ultrafast.

Ok, I adjusted these settings and im gonna test it now, but some good news is I think it got a little better when I changed CS to -high and the process to High, and I dumbed OBS down to normal. Thanks for the help :)

I could be wrong but I believe CS:GO has proper support in its video settings for running in borderless windowed mode without needing any command line arguments. The reason I asked is that when the Source engine is windowed it will more or less try to run at 300 FPS under the hood, the same way it would if vsync were disabled (even if vsync is enabled). This ends up pushing your CPU and GPU much harder than it would in full screen mode with vsync, and usually necessitates capping its rendering frame rate via the fps_max cvar.

Well, after all the suggestions and some extra tweaking on my end, it is working much better, I dont know exactly what helped but I think setting the priorities had a large impact and possibly borerless window mode. Thanks everyone for the support, totally appreciate it. Now its time to kick ass and chew bubblegum and im all out of bubblegum.
