My current video player won't open any of the content I record and it won't open on my video editor either. Is there some way that i can change the file type that will be created as an end product before i record and if not then what programs do open the videos from OBS because, again, at the moment what I'm using isn't working.

Record to FLV. Recording to MP4 directly is possible, but is a Very Bad Idea. It's an extremely fragile container format, and if OBS crashes or has a problem closing out the video, you lose ALL of it. It becomes unrecoverable garbage. FLV only loses the last few seconds.
