Question / Help .flv file error

There is something wrong with my OBS where whenever I'm done recording anything, the file is a .flv file and cannot be opened in anything(i.e. Sony Vegas, Movie Maker, Windows Media Player, etc.). I don't know why this is happening. The videos that are recorded are CS:GO videos. I made my OBS work with full-screen games, such as CS:GO, and whenever I preview it and tab out, I see CS:GO in the preview. I don't know if I touched something I wasn't supposed to in the settings, or I set something up wrong in the Sources, or even in the Scene. I just want to know what is wrong and know if it can be fixed.

Thanks!

Hi Kyan, if you do the following then OBS will export video to .mp4.

- Open Open Broadcaster
- Open Settings
- Open Broadcast Settings
- Make sure the mode = File Output Only
- Swap ".flv" in the File Path field for ".mp4"
- OBS should now save your video as .mp4 and be usable in editing.

I was having the same issue in Premiere Pro CS5 as they discontinued support of .flv

Saving directly to MP4 is NOT RECOMMENDED.

If ANYTHING prevents the file from being finalized properly, the entire recording is rendered unrecoverably corrupt.

Save to FLV and remux afterwards.

I normally record as .mp4 only when doing NVEnc encoding/recording, because for some reason OBS doesn't ever crash (for me) when doing NVEnc. When doing x264 it seems to crash a lot more frequently, so I'd always save that as .flv. Also, even when doing NVEnc .mp4, I'm still at risk of a power failure, Windows bug, or any number of low probability bad things that could ruin my save. Its a risk I take, but if your livelihood is on the line, you should save as .flv even if doing NVEnc.
