Question / Help Fix Mic Sensitivity?

Is there a way to fix mic sensitivity with this program?

Here's my problem:
Normally when I use programs that record my voice (or programs to talk to friends with) (ex: Skype, Fraps, TeamSpeak) all the programs work fine because they have the 'right amount' of sensitivity on them. For some reason OBS is way too sensitive and its causing too much background noise (to the point where it would bother people if I streamed). So my question is is there any way to fix the sensitivity on it / make it less sensitive to ambient noises?

I've got two ideas:
1. Set 'Mic Boost' in Audio settings to something with comma, for example 0.8. I don't even know if OBS accepts such values, but I think it's worth trying.
2. Tunnel your microphone through Virtual Audio Cable and set it how you like it, for example by applying some VST effects to it. The sad thing is that it isn't free :(
 
I'm not sure what you mean by sensitivity then, OBS doesn't change your mic properties or anything. It only reads the input and scales it depending on volume. Check your sound card driver for any sensitivity options.
 
Sounds like he's asking for VOX support to me, but doesn't know what it's called. Voice activation allows you to set a threshold at which you talk over. If there isn't vox support you just hear everything the mic picks up.
 
Yea, there's a need for two things right now, voice activation, and noise reduction. I think once we get those two things in we'll be golden.

I think this is needed but Jim was closer on what I meant.

For some reason if I compare it to other programs (Ex: Fraps) Fraps will reduce my background noise to the point where you barely hear it, while OBS it seems to not get reduced at all.

What happens when you check "Use high quality resampling" in Advanced Settings?

Sorry for the late reply! It definately lowers the background noise by a lot! It isn't perfect but its better. Thanks :)

I agree, eventhough it sounds fine with my Sennheiser PC 360, my Beyerdynamic MMX 300 has some noise to it. I don't use boost at all, threshold 80. Configured Teamspeak and voice over and happy with that. Thats why we need the features you mentioned. In my case atleast. :)
 
If you click on the Settings by the Mic/Aux and Volume Bar and add a Filter, there is a Filter called Noise Gate, this will add a open/close threshold so your mic won't pick up anything louder than your voice.
