Question / Help Extremecap U3 problem... ipad and HDCP?

So I've been using OBS happily with an Elgato Game Capture HD for a while... pretty cool, except for the latency. I figured I would upgrade to the Extremecap U3 and try to get rid of that last annoyance...

I haven't tried it yet with my consoles, but I have been trying it with some ipad gaming. With the included Reccentral software, it works just fine with my ipad air and HDMI dongle.

On OBS, though, it gives me a big old "HDCP" white text on black screen when I open the device.

Tried the Elgato again and it works on OBS with the ipad... so I guess I can rely on that at least...

Anyone with some tips or tricks for getting my Extremecap working?

Actually, turns out RecCentral thinks my ipad is copy protected as well... what's up with that? RecCentral does show the video just fine... it just doesn't allow me to hit record...

Is the Elgato my only option for ipad recording? I would prefer to have no sync issues between, say, my ipad screen and a webcam...

...well, more than just a problem. I'm hoping someone can identify why my extremecap image looks like this?

Thank you for your help... :(

And I'm fixing this by just breaking out ye olde unintentional HDCP stripper... RecCentral now record fine... OBS, though... :( Image issues... New thread...

Looks like a resolution problem. Did you try to set a custom resolution in the Video Capture Device settings?
I am not sure which resolutions the ipad uses, but googling should help you find that out.

Actually that picture is not of an ipad. That's the HDMI out from my computer, spitting out 1920 x 1080.

I am currently using OBS with my Elgato and an ipad... it does 1080p output with black bars on all sides because of the different res and aspect ratio. It works fine on OBS as well as Elgato's own game capture software.

The Avermedia ExtremeCap U3 gives a similar looking image to the first image in this thread when I feed it the ipad and use OBS. (RecCentral no problem).

(BTW, I started a new thread because I felt it reflected the issue, which was an image problem but not an ipad problem... apologies if I shouldn't have done so...)

Stepping down my computer to ouput 1280 x 720 gives me a clean image in OBS! Still disappointed that I can't get 1080 working, though...

It's also worth noting that 1080p in RecCentral seems to work just fine.

And continuing the conversation with myself...

Got 1080p working... had to set a custom resolution. :P

And now I gotta deal with sound (not working from my ipad)... I'll wait a while before starting a new thread, I think. :P

Make sure, use device audio, is selected in the audio properties of your U3 in OBS. But in some cases you might have to open the crossbar (not sure if the U3 has it so you have to check, the open crossbar button is in the properties of your U3 capture source in OBS as well, above the audio section).
The left part of the crossbar selects the pin, while the right part selects the decoder. So first, on the right, switch to the Audio decoder and then use the left dropdown to switch to the next pin, click OK and OK and see if you now get sound.
